Tragedy In Bayelsa As Car Crushes Woman, Three Children

Residents of the Sagbama local Government area of Bayelsa were at the weekend thrown into mourning as a car crushed a woman and her three children along the East-West road section.

A female passenger of the killer Highlander SUV also died in the accident.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident, which occurred at about 3.40 pm drew uncontrollable tears from traders at the popular Adagbabiri junction along the East-West road.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Mrs.Meeting Okpekpe Mayor, was reported to have lost control and ran into the midst of the traders.

An eyewitness said that the woman was having lunch with her children when the SUV ran into their kiosk and crushed them.

“The woman and three have been confirmed dead, while one is still struggling to life,” the eye witness told Daily Times.

The deceased mother is identified as Ruth and the children were Favour, nine years old; Godsgift, five; Oghenerho (one).

The name of the only surviving child, who was in critical condition at the Oghara Hospital at press time was given as T-Girl by the traders.

The spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, Astimin Buswat, while confirming the development, said the Highlander SUV numbered YEN 726 RG was coming from the Patani end of the East-West road when the incident occurred, adding: “The vehicle ran into the shops”.
