Military Kill 4 Voters At A Polling Unit In Kebbi

The Military have allegedly killed four voters in Bayan Dutse Polling Unit, Ginga Ward, Suru Local Government of Kebbi State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident to journalists.

“Yes, we have received report of the killings of four people allegedly killed by Soldiers and I will give you details of the killings as soon we conclude our investigation,” he said.

The House of Representative-elect representing Suru/Bagudo federal constituency, Abdullahi Suru, also confirmed this to journalists.
He said the incident happened around noon on Saturday as accreditation was going on in the area which predominant has supporters of the All Progressives Congress.

“A serving Area Development Counsellor, Ahmed Sankezu, invited the soldiers to arrest some prominent elders in the area because he was earlier prevented from accessing the PU to perfect their rigging plan.

“The soldiers opened fire on the voters who challenged them from ‘arresting’ the elders,” he alleged.

The Governorship candidate of the APC in Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, urged the voters in Kebbi to guard their votes.

Mr. Bagudu said he hopes to win the elections.
“Everyone is hopeful,” he said.

While calling for a violence free election, Mr. Bagudu said “We have stressed numerous times during the campaign that we don’t want anyone to get hurt for politicking.

“We want everyone to be obedient, cooperate with the security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission and more importantly to guard their rights. They should do what the law says.
“They should ensure that there is no thuggery and nobody takes away the mandate that they want to confer on whosoever they so desire.”

Mr. Bangudu lamented the high rate of card reader failure but commended the significant improvement in the turnaround time per voter.

“We noticed that the turnaround time has improved significantly even though the failure rate of the card readers is still significant so the number of entries in the incident form is quite high.

“But we are pleased that the amount of time it is taking is lessened significantly and we hope that this will be less tedious and most people will be able to vote and the process will finish earlier than it did last time,” said Mr. Bagudu.

Also, the Peoples Democratic Party flag-bearer in the state, Sarkin Yaki Bello warned against do-or-die politics in the state.

Mr. Bello commended INEC for the noticeable improvements in the voting process.
He said: “Remember last time my finger print could not be identified but today I am very impressed.
“The efforts of INEC are really commendable. I am sure that have learnt from the mistakes they may have made last two weeks.

“To me every process is a learning process. As you love forward you learn from what you have done and also improve upon them. So I believe INEC has learnt lessons and they have tremendously improved in terms of performance.”

He expressed worry over voter apathy saying: “I can see there appears to be an apathy of voters’ turnout.

“I urge the people to please come out enmasse and vote and I also enjoin them to be patriotic and vote the best candidate out of all of us who are vying for the position.”

“I don’t election to be a do-or-die politics. I mean, every military officer knows leadership is part and parcel of our training. Right from your first day in the Nigerian Defence Academy, you start learning about leadership.

“So leadership has many attributes. As a retired General it should not be a do or die affair. It should be the dividend, and delivery kind of machinery that must be able to inspire confidence in its followership, live in the fear of God and at least achieve results,” said Mr. Bello.

On his part, the Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki, said the outcome of the governorship election in Kebbi State would be a win-win situation for the people of Birnin-Kebbi since the candidates of the APC and PDP are both from Birnin-Kebbi.
Mr. Turaki, who is the Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, said the turnout was encouraging.

“You can see all over here people have turned out enmasse because the governorship election is even more critical than the Presidential and National Assembly elections because these are people that work here locally with the people.

“These are people make such interventions as far as the needs and requirements of the people. Invariably therefore, everybody will not want to be left out as far as selecting this tier of leaders is concerned,” said Mr. Turaki.

Jonathan Feigns Ignorance Of Wife’s Whereabouts

President Goodluck Jonathan at about 1:45pm Saturday said he was still expecting his wife, Dame Patience, at his community in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, to participate in the electoral process.

The President who spoke after casting his vote at his polling unit feigned ignorance of his wife’s whereabouts claiming that the First Lady who was nowhere to be found in her voting unit did not board the same aircraft with him. While Jonathan who jetted out of his community shortly after casting his vote, claimed he was still expecting his wife at Otuoke, there were reports that Patience had spent about two days in Okirika, Rivers State, working to ensure the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the polls.

When asked why his wife was not in Otuoke, President Jonathan said: “Of course, we used different aircraft. She was expected to be here. We have been expecting her and he will still come. “The only thing is whether she will meet up the accreditation period. That is the problem. But she is supposed to be on her way.” On his feeling after conceding defeat, the President said: “I am a Nigerian and I am Goodluck Jonathan and I feel that as a nation, you respect your laws and I am quite pleased in respecting the laws of the land”. The President further expressed satisfaction on the growing democratic ideals of the country. “As a nation, we are quite happy we are consolidating in our democratic efforts. The key thing is that the citizens must directly change government properly. We must do elections every four years”, he said. He reiterated that there was no governorship election in Bayelsa State which he said led to low voter turnout in many polling units.

He said: “Some other states where you have the governorship elections, the stakes will be higher. Elections are going on. You will expect a country as big as Nigeria to have issues in some places. But in overall I think the elections are going on well.” Meanwhile in most polling units in Yenagoa, electoral materials arrived late and accreditation started beyond schedule. Supporters of opposition parties in Gbarain-Ekpetiama in Yenagoa were said to have protested against PDP stakeholders accusing them of bribing INEC officials. But at unit 11, Sagbama Constituency III, accredited started at about 8:20pm, though the card reader failed to recognized many fingerprints.

There were also reports of diversion of electoral materials in some local government areas. For instance, an agent of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) alleged that materials meant for polling units at Amurukeni community Constituency II were diverted into the home of a government official at Omehia Town. But the elections were marred in Ogbia Constituency 3, following a breakdown of law and order in the area. Violence was said to have erupted at unit 11, Ward 6 in Oruma community, Ogbia Constituency 3, after thugs disrupted the accreditation exercise being conducted by officials of INEC.

But an APC agent, Adaga Martins, explained that the exercise was disrupted because the electoral officers could not display ballot papers and results when asked to do so by party agents. Already, tension was said to have mounted in the area as supporters of APC and PDP were said to be spoiling for war. It was gathered that some of the youths believed to be APC supporters were chanting “No (electoral) materials, no election” and “No election here”.

Also at unit 4, Otuasega, in Ward 6, APC candidate for Ogbia 3, Morris Abey, alleged that the Ogbia Local Council Chairman, Enaye Abah, recruited youths of the community as “Ogbia Ward 6 Government Security”. Some of the youths were seen wearing the tag bearing the inscription “Ogbia Ward 6 Government Security”. But the Ogbia Local Council Chairman, Enaye Abah, denied the allegations, saying he did not print security tags for any youth.

10 NYSC Members, One Soldier Arrested In Akwa Ibom #AKWAIBOMDECIDES #UYO

Though the governorship and state house of Assembly elections that took place nationwide Saturday was generally peaceful in Akwa Ibom State, 10 corps members and a soldier were reportedly arrested at the home of a retired General and former NYSC Director, Gen. Edet Akpan, by men of the Department of Security Service for electoral offences.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barr Austin Okojie gave this report while taking a break from the election to brief the press in Uyo, the state capital.

Okojie who reacted to general complains about late arrival of result sheets and compromise by some INEC officials said INEC received sensitive materials on Tuesday, despatched to local government areas on Thursday for early dispatch to polling units.

He regretted that the issue of late arrival of result sheets is never the policy of INEC, as the commission has no reason to withhold any sensitive material.

“The issue of late arrival of result sheet should not even arise because we issue all the sensitive materials at once and have trained and warned our electoral officers against dispatching any electoral material to politicians.”

Okojie who reported cases of violence in Uyo, Ibesikpo, Nsit Ubium and Mkpat Enin, Nsit Ibom and Etinan local government areas said these are basically security issues and commended security agencies for being alive to their responsibilities.

He further reported prompt replacement of card readers in areas where a few were reported to have malfunctioned.

PDP Defectors Won't Be Ministers In My Gov't-Buhari

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari said ‎the All Progressives Congress (APC) has nothing to fear over mass defection of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members to the party.

"I have no fears of PDP defectors," he said in an interview in his Daura residence on Saturday.

Buhari said the PDP chieftains will have very little influence in the APC government.

He said APC has all the capacity to manage the large numbers of PDP defectors.

"The people who are defecting will only have influence in their constituencies. Since their constituencies are now controlled by the APC their influence is therefore limited," he said.

‎Though the president-elect said only the party can handle the issue of defections, he said the PDP bigwigs will be wise enough not to jostle for positions in the new government.

"I hope the people that are defecting will accept the fact that they are joining the people who succeeded. So, I don't think they will just come and say they want to be ministers next month simply because they were ministers before," he said.

The result we just got from Ekiti State House of Assembly Elections has revealed that the Ruling party in the State (PDP) has claimed virtually all the 26 seats of the house, though PDP has 25 while Labour Party has 1 leaving APC empty in the State.

With this result, what do you think could be the next actions and reactions of the 19 APC ex-lawmakers in exile and do you think that with this result, Gov. Peter Ayodele Fayose is still impeachable by those 19 APC ex-lawmakers?

Breaking: Osun APC Chieftain JMK Shot, Ballot Box Snatched At Obokun Ward 2 #osundecides #gubernatorial #election

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in
Obokun Local Government Council Area of the State of Osun, Otunba Jumoke Ogunkeyede, has reportedly been feared shot by suspected hoodlums believed to be working for the People's Democratic Party(PDP).
According to an eye witness(name withheld),
Ogunkeyede was feared shot by the hoodlums while he was about preparing to go to the polling centre for his accreditation.
There are also reports that thugs loyal to the defeated senatorial candidate of the PDP in the last National Assembly election for Osun East senatorial district, Chief Francis Fadahunsi, have snatched a ballot box not long after voting commenced at the Ward 2 in Oja Titun area of Obokun.

Abia State: Massive Rigging Ongoing, APGA Agents Beaten And Sent Out Of Polling #abiadecides #gubernatorial #election

All is not well in Abia state due to the anal raping of democracy going on in the state.

. Ballot box have been snatched in more than 60 polling units by Governor T.A Orji thugs.
. APGA agents are being beaten up and sent out of the polling units by thugs hired by "Ochendo global" in the presence of police officers stationed at the polling units.
. Card readers are not working and its been manual accreditation of voters at almost all the polling units.
. INEC election staff slept over at the Government House last night which says a lot about a lot.
. Presence of already thumb-printed ballot papers in the Abia state government house. The thumb-printing was personally supervised by Chinedu, the governor son.

The on-going election in Abia state has so far not been free and fair and at the end of the day, it can never be adjudged to be free and fair. So far, it has been black and white rigging. It has been intimidation of other parties polling unit agents by PDP thugs under the payroll of Governor T.A Orji in the presence of already compromised Police officers.

Police May Extend Restriction Of Movement To 8p.m. In Lagos — AIG Mbu #lagosDecides #election #gubernatorial

Lagos – Vehicular movement restriction in Lagos State may be extended from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at the governorship and House of Assembly polls, AIG Joseph Mbu has said.

Mbu, who is in-charge of Zone 2 comprising Lagos and Ogun States, told newsmen on Saturday when he visited Mr Akin Orebiyi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Lagos.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, had on Thursday announced the restriction of vehicular movement from 8a.m. to 5p.m. nationwide.

The AIG explained that the extension would be limited to Lagos State, saying the extension was to facilitate the smooth conduct of the elections.

"Lagos is not like other states; it is a peculiar state. Last time, I had to extend the restriction time from 6p.m. to 7p.m.
"It is most likely that we would have to extend it to 8p.m. (today) Saturday.

"Therefore, those involved should be on the alert so that we don't start having crisis.
"We have to give this election all that it takes to ensure that it is peaceful," he said.

Mbu said that the visit was to make the April 11 elections more successful than the March 28 elections.

NAN reports that the AIG inspected all logistics of police operations on ground at INEC state office in Yaba to ensure their functionality.

Meanwhile, Mr Gabriel Abafi, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has commended the orderliness of voters during accreditation.

Abafi gave the commendation during a visit to Polling unit 002 at the State Grammar School, Surulere, Surulere Local Government.

NAN reports that the polling unit was where Gov. Babatunde Fashola was registered and accredited.

The commandant said he had gone to many polling units in the state and had expressed satisfaction with the orderly manner voters conducted themselves.

He, however, noted that the turnout of voters was low compared to the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

"But the turnout has been low. We don't know why. We had expected more turnout than what we had during the last elections,'' he said.

Abafi urged all candidates to accept the results of the polls as the wish of the people. (NAN)

Akpabio denies APC use of stadium

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Godswill Akpabio
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, has refused the All Progressives Congress the use of Uyo Township Stadium for the hosting of President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
Buhari was scheduled to visit Akwa Ibom on Thursday, but as the state government denied the APC use of the Uyo Township Stadium, the visit had to be postponed till after the governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
The letter denying the APC the use of the stadium emanated from the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Youth and Sports, dated April 7, with ref. No. MYS/AD/146/VOL. 11/142 and made available to newsmen on Thursday.
The letter, which was signed by Mr. Nse Edem, on behalf of the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Akan Uko, stated that the request to use the stadium was denied because the Peoples Democratic Party in the state had applied to use it earlier.
“I am directed to refer to your letter of April 6, 2015 on the request for the use of Uyo Township Stadium and to inform you that the ministry had already approved the use of the stadium to the Peoples Democratic Party on April 9.
“You are by this letter please requested to look for any other alternative venue since the stadium had already been booked and would not be free for April 9.”
Reacting to the development, the Head of Media and Publicity, Umana Okon Umana Campaign Organisation, Mr. Iboro Otongaran, said the President-elect would not visit the state as scheduled due to the denial of the APC the use of the venue.
He said that efforts to get alternative venue had proved abortive as the party was so confident that the Uyo township stadium would be approved.
He called on the APC supporters not to worry, but to go out en masse on Saturday to vote for Umana as Akwa Ibom governor and all other APC candidates in the state House of Assembly.

Push APC into Atlantic Ocean, Agbaje tells Igbo

Mr. Jimi Agbaje
The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has urged Igbo across the state to push the All Progressives Congress ‘into the lagoon’ by voting for him on Saturday.
Agbaje said this while addressing Igbo traders at the Alaba International Market on Thursday.
The PDP candidate urged them to ignore the threats made by the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, that if they do not vote for the APC governorship candidate on Saturday, they would die in the lagoon.
“Nobody can push you into the Atlantic Ocean. Rather, you should use your votes to push the APC into the Atlantic Ocean by voting massively for the PDP on Saturday,” Agbaje said.
He urged the people to ignore the scare tactics being marshalled by the APC, saying, it was the antics of a drowning party.
Agbaje said, “Election is like a snake. You have to make sure you win by killing the snake completely by using your votes to drive the APC out of power. The reason why they are harassing you is because they fear Igbo votes. They will try to do ‘shakara’ for you but you must vote massively for the PDP and protect your votes.”
Agbaje, who was accompanied by his running mate, Alhaja Safuratu Abdulkarim; and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, said the APC had become arrogant because the party had been in power for too long.
He said, “In the last 16 years, the APC has been full of arrogance. This arrogance must end once and for all. Saturday is the time to say enough is enough.”
Counselling the audience to eschew violence and refuse to be intimidated at the polling venue, Agbaje urged them to guard their votes.
He said, “God is on our side and power will change hands on Saturday and life will be better for you and your businesses. There will be no oppression again because this election is about freedom from bondage.”
