Police reacts to the shooting of a bus driver in Rivers state by a police man

There was pandemonium at Whimpy Junction, Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt,  Rivers state yesterday afternoon following the shooting of a bus driver, James Imhalu, by a Police officer. The police officer and his team were trying to ensure free flow of traffic in the area when the incident happened.

Residents in the area as well as some transporters protested his killing, resulting in burn fires and blocking of some major roads. The state police commissioner, Chris Ezike, has released a statement saying that the shooting was avoidable and unacceptable. The indicted police officer has been arrested and disarmed and further investigation into the matter is ongoing.

On 7th of August 2015 at about 12.20hrs at Whimpy Junction, Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt a Policeman on Stop and Search duty shot and killed one James Imhalu ‘m’ 37 years of age who was a bus driver in clearly unacceptable and avoidable circumstance.

2. This action sparked off spontaneous protest from drivers, sympathizers and indeed members of the public who rightly saw the action of the Policeman as unjustifiable. The protest spilled to major highways and caused traffic dislocation and pains to members of the public.

3. The Policeman was promptly disarmed, arrested and detained while I ordered full scale investigation into the circumstances and ramifications of this painful incident.

4. I sympathize and condole with the family of the deceased in the loss of their loved one. I condemn in unmistakeable terms the action of the Policeman as preliminary facts revealed his action was clearly avoidable. However, I shall await the outcome of full investigation as already ordered before any conclusive action is taken. The Inspector-General of Police is fully briefed but is saddened by the action of the personnel and has ordered that he be charged to court on conclusion of investigation.

5. The protests yesterday and today appear to have been hijacked by hoodlums and cultists as entreaties for peace fell on deaf ears. Two wrongs cannot make a right. I therefore appeal to the deceased family, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Drivers Union, and indeed parents and guardians to calm frayed nerves and allow peace to reign. We shall ensure that justice is done to this matter.

6. We shall also continue to monitor this situation and emplace adequate security to ensure a safe, secure and better Port Harcourt City, please.

Lagos pastor in divorce mess: He steals church funds says wife

The pastor in-charge, Pentecostal Power and Authority Ministry Worldwide, Mr Kayode Oladoyinbo, and his wife, Christian, are locked in a bitter divorce battle after 11 years of marriage.  The union is blessed with three children, aged 11, 9 and 6, respectively.

Asking an Ojo, Lagos Customary Court to dissolve the marriage, Christian accused her husband of frequent beatings, cruelty, illegal summoning and arrests, lack of care and stealing of the church funds as reasons she wants a divorce.

Accepting the divorce claim instituted by his wife, Kayode said he was fed up with the marriage, accusing the wife of wickedness. According to the pastor, the wife, sometime in 2009 poured  kerosene on him with the aim of setting him ablaze, before he managed to escape.

He said, at another occasion, the petitioner attempted to kill him with a knife, saying he took the weapon and fled to safety. On another occasion, Kayode claimed the wife threatened to burn down the church and kill him in the process.

He alleged that this prompted his reporting the matter to the Morogbo Police Division, saying she was subsequently arrested.  He revealed that under interrogation by the police, the wife confessed  that she actually threatened to attack the church, but that she was not serious about it.

The wife, however, pleaded with the court to stop the husband from intimidating, embarrassing and molesting her, and asked that she is granted the custody of the children of the marriage.
Counsel to Kayode, Mr. Ademola Adedayo, narrated to the court efforts to settle the matter between the couple, saying the efforts proved abortive due to the petitioner, Christian, who remained intransigent.

However, when the Court President, Chief Joesph Ogunmola, asked the parties their final say on the marriage, the wife said she wanted the marriage saved, but her husband insisted that, having come this far, he would want the marriage dissolved.  “I want this divorce. I am tired of my wife, her constant quarrels and lack of respect for me, my ministry and my family”, he said.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho signs new four-year deal

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has signed a new four-year deal at the Stamford Bridge club.
The new deal will keep the 52-year-old in his post until at least 2019, the west London club said on Friday.
The Portuguese, who had previously been in charge from 2004-2007, rejoined in 2013 on a four-year deal, leading the Blues to the Premier League title and the Capital One Cup last season.

Mourinho told the club’s website, “I think this is a normal thing for me to sign a new contract. It is important we have this continuity and I hope we can enjoy more success in the future – for the fans, the players and the club.
“It is the club closest to my heart and I am very happy to know I will be staying here for a long time.”
Mourinho has the best win rate (69%) of any manager to have taken charge of 15 or more Premier League games and will lead his side out in their season opener against Swansea on Saturday.
Last season, Chelsea were the only club in all four divisions to remain unbeaten at home, winning the title with three matches to spare.

Osun crisis: APC legislators convene meeting, invite Omisore, others

aregbesola vs omisore
The Osun State Legislators’ Forum, comprising lawmakers at the National Assembly and Osun State House of Assembly, have invited stakeholders in the state, including former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, to a conference on how to move the state out of its present economic crisis.

READ: Ladies ONLY: , See The Rules To Be A Good Wife & Enjoy Marriage

The lawmakers, who were led to a press conference in Osogbo on Saturday, by a member of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Ayo Omidiran, said the forum was convoking the meeting in order to get suggestions on how the state government could get out of the economic quagmire.

The forum said it was expecting Governor Rauf Aregbesola; his deputy, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori; Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Najeem Salaam, and other leaders to attend the conference.

Omidiran said the forum decided to call all stakeholders together to brainstorm on why the state had been experiencing difficulty in meeting its financial obligations to workers and contractors.

She said, “It is true that our dear state is in dire straits. It is true that our state is going through hard times. Workers and pensioners are owed many months’ salary and infrastructural development projects have come to a halt.

“Members of the Osun Legislators’ Forum therefore decided to organise this summit to serve as an avenue to deliberate on the state of our state, interact with all stakeholders, including but not limited to all past governors and their deputies, technocrats and artisans, labour unions and non governmental organisations, traditional rulers and market women; in short, everyone that has a stake in the State of Osun.

“We sent invitation to Senator Iyiola Omisore because he is a former deputy governor and a former Senator. We are expecting him and others to come to the conference.”

Omidiran added that the outcome of the conference would be presented to Aregbesola, stating that the forum would wait to see what the governor would do with it.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Lasun Yusuf, who is from Osun State, was absent at the press conference but Omidiran said the lawmaker was expected to attend the conference.

Ladies ONLY: , See The Rules To Be A Good Wife & Enjoy Marriage

Dear ladies, resorting to self-help as a way to control your husband in marriage is a recipe for disaster. Don't wait to experience the pains that come with trying to be 'too wise' in marriage. Be a good wife:

Brought to you by Aunty Florence
1). Never raise your voice to your husband. Its a sign of disrespect.
2). Don't expose your husband's weaknesses to your family and friends. You are each other's keeper.
3). Never use attitudes to communicate to your hubby, he may interpret them differently.
4). Never compare your husband to other men, you've no idea what is coming in the near future.
5). Never ill treat your husband's friends because you don't like them, the person who's supposed to get rid of them is your husband.
6). Never forget that your husband married you, not your maid or anyone else.
7). Never assign anyone to give attention to your husband, people may do everything else but your husband is your own responsibility.
8). Never blame your husband if he comes back home without money. Rather encourage him.
9). Never be a wasting wife, your husband's sweat is too precious to be wasted.
10). Never pretend to be sick for the purpose of denying your husband sex
11). Never compare your husband to your one time sex mate in the bedroom.
12). Let him handle what is directed to him although he may answer for you in public opinion polls.
13). Never shout or challenge your husband in front of children or visitors.
14). Don't forget to check the smartness of your husband before he checks out.
15). Never allow your friends to be too close to your husband.
16). Never be in a hurry in the bathroom and on the dressing table. On the streets your husband is always surrounded by women who took their time on their looks.
17). Your parents or family or friends do not have the final say in your marriage. Don't deceive yourself by looking up to them for a final word.
18). Never base your love solely on money. Plan with him, show sincerity and enjoy with him.
19). Don't forget that husbands want attention and good listeners, never be too busy for him.
20). If your idea worked better than his, never compare yourself to him. Its always teamwork.
21). Don't be too judgemental to your husband.
22). A lazy wife is a careless wife. She doesn't even know that her body needs a bath.
23). Does your husband like some special food? You are is wife, try to learn and cook such for him.
24). Never be too confrontational with your husband, enjoy every moment in peace.
25). Make a glass of water the very first welcome to your husband and everyone entering your home. Sweetness of attitude is true beauty for a real wife.
26). Don't associate with women who have a wrong mental attitude about marriage.
27). Your marriage is as valuable to you as the value that you give it. Recklessness is unacceptable.
28). Fruit of the womb is a blessing from the Lord, love your children and teach them sincerity.
29). You are never too busy to influence your home. Never reduce care for your hubby for any reason.
30). A prayerful wife is a better equipped wife, pray always for your husband and family

Why I Slept with the Female Student inside UNILAG – Lecturer

For nine days, Shola (real names withheld) was in pain. The abdominal pain she endured felt as if a knife got stuck in her. She was scared but she had no choice but to endure the pain since she couldn’t imagine telling her parents the trauma she had been subjected to that led to the pains she was going through.

“How could I face them? How could I tell them that the man they handed me over to, to help me process my admission, had r*ped me?” Shola said.

But then, much as she tried, she couldn’t continue hiding her ordeal...
especially when the pains had become unbearable. Her parents eventually got to know what their daughter had passed through in the quest of trying to become an undergraduate of UNILAG.

As reported by PUNCH, 18-year-old Shola is one of the numerous hopeful candidates, wishing to secure admission into the school. But her score of 211 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination fell short of the requirement for Mass Communication, which was her choice.

Her father, who resided in Abesan Estate in Ipaja area of Lagos, had done all he could to ensure that her daughter would become a university student this year but all his efforts seemed to be futile.

“Someone told me to send her UTME registration number. He checked on the university website and said she was not eligible. Not convinced, I went to the school myself to check and it was the same problem.

“I had to start making calls to other universities where she could secure admission and someone told me she they could be helped to gain admission into the Olabisi Onabanjo University with that score.

“As soon as the UTME result was released around May, I informed a friend of mine who lives within the estate, who is a lecturer at UNILAG. I took my daughter to him and he promised that when it was time for the post-UTME examination, he would help her out with the process.”

The friend Shola’s father mentioned is Dr. Akin Baruwa, a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, UNILAG, who is also a chairman of one of the community development committees of Abesan Estate.

Shola’s father explained that when she realised that her result was not being accepted as eligible for Mass Communication, he went back to Baruwa on July 22, 2015 and the lecturer told him to bring his daughter the following morning so he could take her to campus and see how he could help.

“He said they had to take off very early the following morning. I did not suspect anything unusual about that timing because I trusted him. By 4am, I roused my daughter. We prepared and I took her to Baruwa’s house. I did not opt to follow them because I trusted him. I did not imagine that anything untoward could happen,” he said.

Baruwa and Shola took off from Abesan about 5am. She would later return home by 11am. His daughter was noticeably moody as she came home. Two hours earlier, Baruwa had called the father and told him that he had done all he could but that it did not seem her admission would be possible.

“When he told me that, I believed he had done all he could and told my daughter to come back home,” he said.

But it was not the same Shola that came back home. She was moody and noticeably quiet. She went straight to her room and locked the door.

In company with child rights activist, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, whom the case was reported to by the family, PUNCH spoke with Shola in private to give details of what happened in Baruwa’s office that day.

It was obvious the girl was trying hard to stay composed. While she spoke, her right hand would go to her lower abdomen occasionally. When asked about it, she explained that she was still feeling some pain, which had reduced a lot since she got treatment.

Shola said on Thursday, July 23, 2015, as her father handed her over to the lecturer, she still did not suspect anything until they got to around Maryland.

“While I was inside the car, he started to touch my hair and rub my head. I was very surprised and I brushed off his hand. He never tried it again till we got to UNILAG,” Shola alleged.

According to her, while they were on the way, Baruwa was showing her different parts of town, telling her about places she did not know.

She alleged, “While we were on the way, he asked if I go out at all and I told him I don’t usually go out. And he would show me a place and say ‘This is Maryland o. You may not know since you don’t go out.’ Then he took me to the Yaba College of Technology. He drove inside and showed me the place. We later proceeded to UNILAG.

“When we got to his office, it was about 6.30am. The offices in the building were deserted. He said he liked to be early to avoid traffic. He told me to sit on the couch in his office.

I noticed he was restless. He would stand and go outside sometimes. He asked if I wanted anything, I told him I was fine. He put on the television; I told him I was okay. He put on the air conditioner and I told him I did not want that.

“He had already heated water and made Coffee, which he offered to me. I told him I was okay and really did not need that. He then put the hot Coffee on the table. Later, out of respect, I took the cup and sipped a little. I started to feel drowsy not long after that. I did not know why.”

According to Shola’s narration, Baruwa later took her to see a female official in another building who examined her documents and explained further that there was little that could be done on her admission.

Baruwa reportedly said she might have to opt for diploma.

Shola claimed that when they went back to his office, the lecturer kept her document on his table.

She said, “He kept standing and moving around the office. Later, he went outside and when he came back inside, he locked the door and kept the key on his table. I did not know what was happening.

“A moment later, he told me to pick up a paper for him beside the couch. As I bent down to pick up the paper, he pushed me into a corner of the couch and held me down as he forcibly removed my trousers and underwear.”

PUNCH asked at this point if Shola made any attempt to shout to alert anybody nearby.

She claimed that she actually screamed but that the way he held her down did not allow her voice to be as audible as she had wanted it to be.

Shola claimed, “If people were around the office, they would have heard me shout. He held me down, and pulled down my trousers and underwear. I screamed and begged him to leave me alone but he did not.

“After he had his way, he released me. As soon as I pulled up my trousers, I grabbed the keys to the door and rushed out while he was dressing up. He was walking behind me as I walked downstairs from his office. He said nothing as I walked away crying. He later went back.”

Shola’s father told our correspondent that he had been able to secure a place for her to write her post-UTME examination for an admission into OOU but the young girl has refused to go.

When Shola was asked why she refused to go, she said “How can I be sure that this same thing would not happen there? I don’t know anybody there. If it happens again, where would I run to?”

PUNCH tracked down Dr. Baruwa after speaking with Shola, he gave his version of the saga.

According to him, he indeed had a s*xual encounter with Shola but it was “consensual.”

The lecturer, who seemed to be in his early 40s, told PUNCH that he made the mistake of not doing enough to resist the temptation of ‘sleeping’ with Shola.

Speaking in the front of his house out of earshot of his wife and two children, Dr. Baruwa said, “I swear to God that the girl agreed to everything that happened. She was a chatty girl, who did not show any shyness.

“It is true that I took her to YABATECH and showed her places. What is not true is that I deliberately took off from home because of any plan to do anything bad to her. I took off from home that early to avoid traffic.

“When she was in my office, she was the one telling me to be free with her. I realised that I needed to lie down a little and did not want my shirt to be rumpled. When I pulled it off, she even told me not to mind her presence that since it was my office, I could do whatever I wanted.

“When we first got to the office, she lay on my chest and was even playing with my manhood. That was why I could not resist it. After we came back from seeing the woman who was supposed to help with her admission, she was about to go when I told her to give me a hug. It was that which now led to the actual s*xual encounter.

“When I realised that I could not resist her, I had to tell her to let me put on a condom. The truth is that, while I was putting on a condom, she stood by and waited. I did not actually penetrate. When she was saying ‘it’s enough, it’s enough’ and complaining that her tummy had started hurting her, I stopped.”

Baruwa explained that Shola’s father had sent a cryptic text message to him (days later when he learnt of what happened to his daughter), saying that he had learnt of what he did to his daughter.

“I know I betrayed his trust but nobody would understand it was consensual. I would have reached out to him to beg him if I think it would solve the problem,” he said.

When told that Shola went through more than a week of excruciating abdominal pain, Baruwa explained that if Shola left him the day of the encounter with any sign of hurt, he would have reached out to her to find out how she was doing.

Two days after PUNCH spoke with Baruwa, he was arrested by the police and the case is being investigated at the Isokoko Police Division, Agege, Lagos.

The case has been reported at the Office of the Public Defender under the Lagos State Ministry of Justice. The Director of the OPD, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi, said the case would be followed to its logical conclusion.

Dr. Baruwa was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on Thursday.

U.S did not give Buhari names of oil thieves – US embassy

The United States has yet to give the list of oil thieves to President Muhammadu Buhari, findings by our correspondents have shown.
Sources at the US embassy said they were not aware of any exchange of documents between American officials and the President during the visit.
If there was such a list, a source said, it was not given to Buhari during the visit.
The source said, “Though President Buhari engaged in discussions on various issues with the US President Barack Obama, there was no exchange of documents between them.”
When contacted, the US embassy in Abuja declined comment on the issue. The Press Attaché, Sean McIntosh, said he had no comment on the issue. There had been media report that the US government had given Buhari two separate lists containing the names of corrupt Nigerians and crude oil thieves, adding that the President was taken aback when he saw the list.
The list was said to contain the names of top government officials who have been stealing the country’s oil, using their high offices to perpetrate the stealing and the other containing the names of illegal oil bunkerers.

The report further stated that the list given to the President by the US might compel him to probe the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
But the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, denied knowledge of any list of corrupt Nigerians reportedly handed over to Buhari during his visit to the US.
He said he would not be able to make further comment on the matter since he was not aware of the list.
“I have no knowledge of the list you are talking about so I can neither confirm its authenticity nor those listed therein,” he said.

Conman posed as US general to defraud British women of £300,000

A fraudster who posed as an American general serving in Afghanistan conned two women out of more than £300,000 in just six months in what detectives believe was a multi-million-pound global scam.

The conman used images of real-life US soldiers to befriend the women over Skype saying he wanted to move to the UK to marry them.

SEE : Taraji. P. Henson's boobs before and after..:-) (photos)

He posed as “General James Krulak” and “General James Raul” and persuaded them to help transfer his $8.5 million (£5.4 million) retirement fund — a “box of treasure” from a family in Afghanistan.

Today Scotland Yard issued an appeal, saying it has identified two other possible victims of the fraudster but fears there may be many more women who have lost money.

Detectives from the Yard’s new FALCON cyber crime unit say they have uncovered evidence the con was part of a “sophisticated global network” preying on vulnerable women.

Nigerian national Robinson Agbonifoayetan, 32, of Welling, is facing jail after pleading guilty to two counts of fraud by false representation at Isleworth crown court.

The court heard how the British victim, in her sixties and living in Ealing, was befriended by a man she believed to be a US general after he contacted her out of the blue on Skype.

READ: 15 injured as soldiers, policemen fight in Edo

The man insisted on speaking to her several times a day, paying her countless compliments and confiding in her about tragic family events, like his parents and sister dying in a car crash.
Within days he talked of marrying her and introduced the idea of a box containing $8.5million, which he said he had been given by a family after he saved their lives serving in Afghanistan.

She also agreed to meet an delivery agent at a rail station who produced a United Nations diplomatic ID card bearing the name Christopher Williams, saying he came from St Lucia — though the card bore the flag of Belgium. Police say this was actually Agbonifoayetan, who was also the fake US general on Skype.

The victim used up her life savings, pawned jewellery, sold her car and took out loans to pay the spiralling costs before finally becoming suspicious and going to the police.

Detectives arrested Agbonifoayetan at Heathrow airport on December 17 2014, as he tried to leave the country on a flight to Nigeria.

When police raided his family home in Welling they found a receipt book with details of a second victim in Devon. The woman, in her fifties, was sold a similar story by a “General James Raul” and handed over £22,000.

Detectives are now seeking a compensation order to help the victims recoup some of the cash, which was sent to Ghana and Nigeria.

Detective Constable Nick Curtis, who led the inquiry, said: “We are coming across a number of cases of romance fraud. I urge anyone who thinks they may have been a victim to report it to police now.”

According to reports, the young men were arrested at the India-Pakistan border as they made to scale a barbed wire fence. When interrogated by India's Border Security Force officials, Imran and Sani said they were on their way to Pakistan and then to Iraq to join ISIS but when searched, they had no valid travel documents to enter Pakistan but it was found that they had entered India on August 6th.

They made their way from Amritsar city to Delhi and arrived at the integrated check point at Attari on Friday morning.
“On finding the border gates closed, the youths moved towards a barbed wire fence along the Attari-Wagah rail track (on which the Samjhauta Express peace train between both countries plies) and jumped over the high barbed wire fence, thinking they had entered Pakistan. BSF personnel immediately nabbed them,” a BSF official said.

Federal Government of Nigeria to increase VAT to 10%

Nigeria plans to double the value-added tax rate to 10 per cent this year to help shore up government revenue eroded by the declining price of oil, the country’s main export, the Federal Inland Revenue Service said.

“The plan is to increase to 10 percent this year, but we have to consult first with relevant stakeholders,” Sunday Ogungbesan, Acting Executive Chairman of the FIRS, told reporters.

Nigeria depends on crude exports for about 70 per cent of government revenue and more than 90 percent of foreign exchange.
