11 states to pay 14.83% interest on bond
The Debt Management Office in Monday said that the 11 state governments whose commercial debts were recently restructured into bonds would pay an interest rate of 14.83 per cent of the value.
The Director-General, DMO, Dr. Abraham Nwankwo, who stated this in Abuja, said the 14.83 per cent would be paid by the 11 states whose debt had already been restructured in the first phase of the exercise.
The restructuring, according to him, has been effected, noting that with the arrangement, the bond will mature on July 18, 2034.
The first 11 states that got their debts to commercial banks restructured are Osun, N88.6bn; Delta, N69.8bn; Ogun, N55.4bn; Imo, N37.1bn; Ekiti, N18.8bn; Kwara, N15.6bn; and Edo, N11.9bn.
Others are Benue, N10.9bn; Oyo, N9.1bn; Bauchi, N6.5bn and Kogi, N0.81bn.
Nwankwo said that the impact of the debt management operations would imply a drop in the monthly debt service burden by a minimum of 55 per cent and a maximum of 97 per cent among the 11 states.
Similarly, the interest rate savings for the 11 states would now range from three per cent to nine per cent per annum.
He said, “The debt restructuring operation and their total loans to the 11 states, which were restructured, amounted to N322.78bn.
“The restructuring was effected using a reopening of the FGN-Bond issued on July 18, 2014 and maturing on July 18, 2034.
“The pricing was based on the yield to date of the bond at a 30-day average, resulting in a transaction yield of 14.83 per cent.”
He explained that the debt restructuring exercise was open to all the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory but added that the second phase of the commercial debt restructuring exercise would commence when the remaining 11 states must have completed the reconciliation of their loans with their respective banks.

I Love God-fearing Men, But Not Poor Ones - Nigerian Actress
Nazareth Jesse Bako isn’t a new face on the scene, she started acting as far back as 2001 even though her first appearance in a movie came about in 2004. If there’s really someone with an interesting background, Naz, as she is called by friends, has one to be proud of.
She was born in Jerusalem, brought up in Bida, Niger State. Her both parents are from Kuje Area Council, Federal Capital City, Abuja. She graduated from University of Abuja with B.Sc. in Economics.
In a recent chat with Ayo Onikoyi, the actress said she receives countless marriage proposals every year but is yet to make up her mind with whom to settle down. When the time comes the actress has a clear vision the kind of man she wants to share her bed with for life.
“A man who is God-fearing and matured in heart and also caring. Once you have a man who loves God every other thing is secondary” she boldly told me.
But would she settle for a poor man that is God-fearing?
“There is nothing like a poor man in my diary. They will go for their class of women.
I want to marry a ready-made man. I was not born to suffer all my life. I have tried to get to where I am so settling down would be resting and giving birth to my kids and taking good care of them.

Kogi state university ASUU threatens strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kogi State University says it will resume an industrial action suspended in May over unpaid allowances of N1bn to its members.
The Acting Chairman of union, Dr. Gbenga Aina, told newsmen in Anyigba on Saturday that the lecturers had resolved to go on strike on Sept. 1, if the state government did not honour an earlier agreement with the union on the payment.
He accused the state government of reneging on the “gentleman’s agreement” reached with the union before the suspension of the strike in May.
He said the development had compelled the lecturers to issue the ultimatum to resume the industrial action.
The chairman said the promise to pay the debt in “Earned Academic Allowances”, was contained in the 2009 agreement reached between the union and the state government.
He said the agreement was for government to offset the debt in monthly installments of N25m which it had failed to do.
ASUU, according to him, has resolved that if there was no positive response from the government at the end of August, the union will go on strike.
“As a union, our objective is to see that the standard of education in the institution does not fall below requirements and also ensure that the rights of our members are not trampled upon.
“We are parents too and we do not like it when we go on strike,” he said.
The chairman said the union arrived at the decision after a brainstorming session to find an avenue for soft landing but was left with no choice.
But the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof .Hassan Isah, had reportedly said the inability to implement the agreement was not the management’s or the government’s fault, but that of the union.
He said the computed Earned Academic Allowances submitted to the management was forwarded to the government in January after confirming its accuracy.
He, nonetheless, appealed to the lecturers to go back to the negotiating table with the government rather than embarking on a strike.

PLEASE ADVICE: Because of Rampant Rape Cases, He Barred His Landlord's Kids From His Apartment; Right Or Wrong?
GOT THIS FROM A READER :
Dear Tosin,
My landlord and his wife, along with some other neighbors think I'm a wicked person that doesn't like children. This is because I don't allow their children come to play in my apartment. Let me tell you the short story:
I moved in about 7 months ago, and my landlord lives just beside my flat. Everyday, his children (ages 2, 6 and 9) always come to knock that they want to come and play. Sometimes they say they want to watch cartoons since I have a dstv.
The problem is, I live alone, I'm single and I don't have any children for them to play with. I spend most of my time at work except weekends when I love to cook. The children usually come during weekends.
I decided not to let them come and play because I've been hearing about "65 yr old rapes this", " 25 yr old defines that ". I'm still very young, and please don't get me wrong: I'm not saying I have plans to defile anyone's child or that I'm capable of doing that.
I usually see these children going to other flats and other houses on the street to " play" and I don't want a case where someone will defile any of them and I automatically become a suspect, that's why I decided not to let them come in. In fact, when they knock, I don't even answer once I know it's them.
Now, people in the area are saying I'm a bad person that's why I don't like children.
WHAT SHOULD I DO PLEASE??

Nigeria: Boko Haram used teenager to spy on airport
The Islamic extremist group Boko Haram infiltrated the capital's main airport and was using a teenager to carrying out surveillance, Nigeria's intelligence agency said.
A 14-year-old boy was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport in Abuja earlier in the week, Tony Opuiyo, spokesman for the Department of State Services, said late Friday. The teenager said he spied on the movement of passengers and security and reported back to his handlers, said Opuiyo.
The intelligence agency said it's working closely with the Aviation Security Department and other groups to prevent any possible attacks at Nigeria's airports.
More than 1,000 people have been killed by Boko Haram violence since President Muhammadu Buhari was elected in March with a pledge to wipe out the extremists whose six-year-old uprising has killed an estimated 20,000 people. Doctors Without Borders said Friday that 75,000 refugees from Niger, Nigeria and Chad have been displaced from their homes in recent weeks due to attacks in the Lake Chad area.
Earlier this year, troops from Chad and Nigeria drove the extremists out of some 25 towns held for months in what had been declared an Islamic caliphate. The insurgents, who in March pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, have gone back to hit-and-run tactics and suicide bombings largely in the country's north.
Separately the Nigerian army said two soldiers were killed by land mines buried on highways by suspected Boko Haram extremists in Nigeria's Borno state. Two others were critically injured in the explosion as troops on a counterinsurgency operation engaged extremists in the Gudumbali area.

A 50-year-old trader, Muinatu Aliu, has told an Ikorodu customary court in Lagos State that she denied her husband sex because she usually felt pains anytime he made love to her .The mother of four, disclosed this while testifying in a divorce petition instituted by her husband, Awopeju Aliu, 58.
Muinatu, however, pleaded with the court to save her 25-year-old marriage. “I usually have a painful sexual experience whenever I am having an intercourse with my husband.
"And when I related my experience to a woman in my neighbourhood, she said my husband could be using sex enhancing drugs; so I was always denying him sex.
“I usually feel so sick after sex, but I am ready to seek medical attentions so as to save my marriage from collapse. “I promise to make love to him anytime he wishes,’’ she said.
However, the husband urged the court to dissolve the marriage despite his wife’s pleas, while also praying the court to award him custody of their children. “I am hypertensive and the doctor told me that I should always make love to my wife to reduce the high blood pressure; but my wife was always denying me sex.“I don’t want her anymore. I want to marry another wife,’’ Awopeju said.
President of the court, Mr Olu Adebiyi, adjourned the case till September 10 for possible reconciliation.
Adebiyi ruled that the couple should remain in peace till the next adjourned date.
