Britain announces fresh support for Buhari to end Boko Haram

Apparently excited by the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s new President, United Kingdom has openly declared its readiness to work closely with Nigeria to end its security and economic challenges. To start with, Britain says it is going to spearhead the group of seven developed nations (G-7 nations) to rally necessary support for Buhari to crush insurgency in Nigeria without further delay.

British Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, announced the new posture of his country towards Nigeria while speaking with Vanguard in Abuja on Friday shortly after attending Buhari’s inauguration as Nigeria’s 5th civilian president.
Hammond led British delegation to witness the swearing in of Buhari, who only returned to Nigeria on the eve of his inauguration, where he had gone to rub minds with Prime Minister, David Cameron, at Number 10 Downing Street.
The foreign secretary said that apart from discussing Boko Haram challenges in G7 meeting coming up later, Britain was ready to provide the Nigerian armed forces with needed technical and surveillance equipment and training to be able to combat the menace of insurgency.

According to him, it is imperative that Boko Haram must be crushed in order to give the new administration the opportunity to settle down and tackle the economic development of Nigeria and give succour to the citizens.

Hammond said: “The emergence of Buhari has given us a new opportunity to help Nigeria with both technical and surveillance support to tackle the problems of Boko Haram. “But we can only do that if the Nigerian armed forces comply with human rights requirements. Happily BUhari has given us that assurance and we are going to help Nigeria in any way possible to tackle its problems.

The foreign secretary announced that with Nigeria/British trade volume peaking at £7 billion per year, Britain was ready to drive more investments into Nigeria to help boost its economy and stabilise the country, using Nigerian businessmen in the UK as the vehicle. Hammond said that Britain was excited about what he called “Buhari’s realistic agenda” to tackle the economic and socio-economic challenges so as to give hope to the masses.

Saturday Vanguard learnt that the dispatch of Hammond by David Cameron to attend Buhari’s inauguration marked the beginning of fresh level of cooperation between Nigeria and Britain in recent years. The relationship between the two countries hit the rocks following the alleged refusal by the European nation to sell military hardwares to Nigeria to tackle insurgency on the allegation that Nigerian troops could use them to commit human rights abuses.
Before Hammond’s visit on Thursday, the last British Foreign Secretary to visit Nigeria was Jack Straw about nine years ago.

Buhari condemns Maiduguri attack

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday condemned the latest terrorist attack on Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
In a statement by the head of his media team, Garba Shehu, the President warned that his administration won’t tolerate wanton and wilful destruction of life by criminal elements that are bent on anarchy.

He said  his administration meant business in its determination to tackle terrorism with all the resources available to his government.

Describing terrorists as cowardly murderers that target innocent people, Buhari explained that as the Commander-in-Chief, he has sworn to protect the security of Nigerians everywhere.

The President, while calling for increased vigilance by local communities, assured that his administration would give security close attention, and that his government was committed to boosting the morale of the  armed forces by effectively funding them and attending to their welfare.
He condoled the families of the victims of the latest terrorist attack on Maiduguri and assured them that the worst days of the criminal elements will be over soon.

I’ve not stopped Jonathan’s ministers from travelling abroad – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said he had not directed any government agency to stop anybody, including officials of past administrations, from travelling abroad.

He said former government officials, including ministers, were entitled to their full rights and privileges under the nation’s Constitution.

He therefore warned that they must not be subjected to any undue harassment and intimidation at the airports or at other points of entry and exit.

Buhari made the clarification in a statement by the Head of his media team, Garba Shehu, in Abuja.
Shehu said the President made the clarification while reacting to some cases of ‘V.I.P stoppages’ at the airports as reported to him on Saturday.

He quoted Buhari as directing all government agencies to carry out their duties in full compliance with extant rules, regulations and the Constitution of the country.

“Unless otherwise directed by the courts, no law-abiding citizens should be barred from travelling abroad.
“We must treat fellow citizens with courtesy and respect.

“Officials at the borders and other points of entry and exit should conduct their affairs in strict compliance with due process.

“No one has my permission to bar anyone from travelling abroad,” Buhari said

Alamieyeseigha discovered me – Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday attributed his successful political career to the efforts of former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.

Jonathan, who was speaking at the thanksgiving service to round-off the civic reception organised in his honour by the Bayelsa State Government, said he remained grateful to the former governor.
Jonathan, who equally expressed gratitude to his aides and associates, said Alamieyeseigha discovered, mentored and brought him into politics.
He said, “I am grateful to my aides and all those that worked with me to ensure our success.
“The business community, some of whom are here with us, on behalf of myself and wife, we thank you; we owe you so much.
“I will not forget to thank Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha. Without him, I won’t have been here talking about being a former President.
“At a time I was not even thinking about being a Commissioner in the state, he invited me to run with him.

“Of course, that is why I am here to also thank him. Without him, it would not have been possible; nobody would have heard about Jonathan.”
Jonathan said even as a former president, he remained committed to the development of his community, Bayelsa and the nation at large.
State governor, Seriake Dickson, noted that the feat attained by the former President as a ‘Hero of Democracy’ was an act of God and justified the need for the thanksgiving service.
Guest Speaker, Dr Uma Ukpai, at the event held at St Peters Anglican Church, Yenagoa, noted that Jonathan remained consistent despite the various obstacles that confronted him.
He described him as a considerate leader, observing that obstacles in life were meant to make people resilient.
“If in life, you have no problem, it means that God has forgotten you and the devil has rejected you.
“We are measured in life by the enormity of the problems we solve,” Ukpai said.

Buhari, Osinbajo declare assets

Buhari, Osinbajo
President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have declared their assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau  as required by the Constitution.
The head of Buhari’s media team, Garba Shehu, in a statement on Saturday, said the President and Vice President submitted their assets declaration forms separately on Thursday.

Shehu added that the CCB, through its Chairman, Sam Saba, on Friday acknowledged the receipt of the forms.
He said  Buhari’s declarant identity was given as: President: 000001/2015.
Shehu however did not disclose the contents of the assets declaration forms.

“By declaring their assets, President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo may have not only fulfilled the requirements of the Nigerian Constitution, but also fulfilled the first of their many campaign promises.

“While seeking election into the highest office in the land, the President had promised Nigerians that he would publicly declare his assets as soon as he took over government,” he wrote.
The Nigerian Constitution states in Chapter VI Section 140, that a person elected to the office of President shall not begin to perform the functions of that office until he has declared his assets and liabilities as prescribed in the Constitution.

God’s plan is to heal Nigeria through us – Osinbajo

Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday said God’s plan was to turn things around for good  and heal Nigeria through the new administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said his election was ordained by God for the sole purpose of assisting  Buhari to build a nation that will be admired among other nations of the world.
Osinbajo said this during a thanksgiving service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
The service was organised for the Vice President, members of his family, friends and political associates to thank God for the success of his inauguration held on Friday.
He said the desire of God was that Nigeria should be governed in accordance with the rule of law and justice.
He said, “I thank the great and mighty God who has chosen me at this time by Himself to assist the President of this nation.
“His plan is to make Nigeria a nation that will be admired and respected amongst the nations of the earth.
“This will be done by ensuring that corruption is eradicated and resources meant for all are not cornered by a few, but are used according to law, justice and equity for the benefit of all.
“The Lord wants a nation ruled only in accordance with law and justice where the guilty are punished and the good is rewarded.
“This links to President Muhammadu Buhari’s inaugural speech yesterday (Friday).
“Sure, you will agree that he emphasised these three clear designs of God.”
In his sermon, Bishop Wale Oke of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries warned Osinbajo  not to allow corrupt people around him.
Oke warned that the Vice President’s career and reputation built over the years could be destroyed within short a period if he allows corruption or unholiness around him.
He said,  “If you are corrupt, you cannot be a friend of God.
“We pray that you will enjoy the manifestation of God all the days of your life.
“When others don’t have answer to a situation, God will reveal it to you. He will make you the Joseph of this administration.
“God will reveal the secret of the problems of Nigeria to you like Joseph and Daniel in the Holy Bible.”
He however told Osinbajo that to enjoy the favour of God, he must choose the way of the biblical Abraham and not that of Eli.
That, he added, is the only way that would make even generations yet unborn celebrate the Vice President.
“The nation has a brilliant hope in the combination of you and Buhari, who is known for his uprightness,” he added.
Special prayers were offered for Osinbajo and his family, the church and for the nation during the service attended by a former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.);  his wife, Victoria and All Progressives Congress’ leaders.
Osinbajo directed that the offerings received during the thanksgiving service should be taken to the camps of Internally Displaced Persons.

Okorocha woos investors with $2m, free land

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has promised interested industrialists and investors an assistance of $2m and plots of land to any investor, who will invest in the state.

He stated this on Friday at the Imo International Convention Centre, during a dinner to mark his second term inauguration in office.
Okorocha said, “We are willing to give $2m, parcels of land and other incentives to attract industrialists to our state, so that our youths can get jobs. Industry plus factory equal to wealth creation; that is what we are going to do.”
He explained that the state government was having crucial talks with industrialists from Turkey and South Africa to build factories in the state.
The governor added that Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Chief Jerry Chukwueke and Chief Tony Chukwune, among those that recently defected to the All Progressives Congress, had promised to build two industries each in the state.

20 Disturbing Fast Food Facts that Will Change Your Diet Forever

BURGER

Quickly made, quickly served, quickly eaten. That’s fast food in six simple words, although in reality, perhaps badly made, poorly served, quickly eaten is a more appropriate summary.
It’s been well documented that junk food is exactly what it says on the tin: junk. Still, it doesn’t seem to stop us from lining up in droves and flinging our hard-earned cash into fast food chains’ tills.

KFC, McDonald’s continue to sell an astounding 75 hamburgers per second, and you can never go more than just over one hundred miles in the US/Nigeria without seeing those famous golden arches luring hungry clientele inside.

Indeed, most people are willing to occasionally gorge on the kind of food that isn’t exactly great for them. An understandable mind-set of course, given that a couple of solid gym sessions will work off the high calorie count that came inside that Big Mac box.
But there’s more concerning aspects to fast food than the prospect of putting on a few extra pounds, and recent research across the board has revealed several horror stories that hide behind the glossy menus and vibrant packaging. Listed here are some of these stories: disturbing fast food facts that will change your diet forever.

1. Draining the Brain

This is perhaps the most alarming information available about fast food in the modern day. Everyone is familiar with the fatty contents and high sugar levels present in burgers, chips and soda in these environments, but what people may be less aware of is the fact that fast food items may also actually have detrimental effects on the human mind.
Chowing down on junk food on a regular basis disrupts the flow of blood to the brain, and after a certain amount of time can make you appear like a member of the walking dead. Unless we begin to actively cut back on our fast food consumption, a world of shuffling zombies might not be such an implausible possibility after all.

2Fecal Fizz

Some people may claim that they do not necessarily mind where their food comes from as long as it tastes good. However, there’s an exception to every rule, and the fact that thousands of drink dispensers in fast food restaurants have displayed traces of fecal bacteria is surely that exception in this case.
In low doses, the particular form of bacteria found on these drink dispensers (known as coliform bacteria) won’t kill you, but the fact that this strand is commonly found in feces is revolting enough to make even the most unhygienic person want to kick the fizzy drinks forever.
Whilst this substance might not necessarily make you sick, another form of bacteria found in these drink dispensers certainly will: a nasty little strand called e.coli. This bacteria can cause severe food poisoning symptoms, and in rare cases has even caused death.
The message here couldn’t be clearer: stay away from fast food drink dispensers.

3. Sickly Syrup

Ever notice that you still feel thirsty after guzzling down a jumbo-sized fizzy drink from your local fast food restaurant? Well, there’s a reason for that.
To give these beverages a succinct, sickly-sweet taste, many fast food chains gleefully load their fizzy drinks with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) – a highly processed substance that performs as a sugar substitute.
Whilst high levels of HFCS allow a sweet flavor to dance on your tongue, they also tear away at the enamel on your teeth, stretch out your stomach lining, and attack your vital organs. Bizarrely, gobbling right out of a sugar bowl might actually be healthier for you.

4. Bad Eggs

You might want to start taking a pass on any egg-based fast food breakfasts when hunger hits you in the morning time.
In an attempt to cut back on production costs, a wide variety of fast food chains often use an egg substitute for their breakfast dishes known as “Premium Egg Blend” – which has been proven to contain a troubling substance named glycerine. You might not be too familiar with the name of this material, but chances are you will have come into contact with it whilst taking a shower or having a shave.
Yup, this solvent is regularly apparent in shaving foam and soap, and whilst consuming either of these products in small doses probably wouldn’t kill you, that’s hardly an endorsement for a breakfast meal is it?

5. Stretchy Bread

You might be surprised to learn that Subway is actually the largest fast food supplier in the world, even ahead of those inescapable giant golden arches that seem to follow you around to every single street corner wherever you go.
But this is perhaps only the second most surprising fact about the Subway sandwich chain, with the “winner” being a little a fact that’s a little more unsettling.
Until recently, the bread used for sandwiches in this fast food establishment contained a chemical called azodicarbonamide – a substance that’s previously been used to create yoga mats.
Subway has since declared that this chemical has been wiped away from their bread recipe, but it’s still enough to turn your stomach if you’ve ever munched down on an Italian BMT before.

6. Fly Egg Sauce

Some disturbing news for you Americans out there. Regulations sanctioned by the Food and Drug Administration of the USA actually allow for 30 or more fly eggs per 100 grams and 1 or more maggot per 100 grams to be present in tomato-based sauces.
Admittedly, these guys are the ones who know their stuff when it comes bacteria, but the thought of scoffing down fly eggs as part of your dish is enough to turn you off fast-food pasta dishes forever.

7. Cows and Cows and Cows

If you ever felt a little guilty about eating an animal after licking your fingers clean and binning your Big Mac box, the following little tidbit may be enough to guilt-trip you into never buying a hamburger ever again. Taking one bite of a big, fat juicy fast food burger might mean that you’re actually chomping into bits and pieces extracted from over one hundred different cows.
After cattle are slaughtered, the “cheaper” bits and pieces are all tossed together for processing, where these gristly cuts of meat are mushed up into circular shapes and given a pump of fat for good measure. The result is the typical, cheaply made fast food hamburger, which is subsequently shipped off to a variety of fast food chains around the world and then flies off the shelves into the hands of antsy customers.
Perhaps if more of them knew what they were eating, they might begin to ration their burger buying habits, and switch to grilling in their own backyards instead.

8. Cheese That Won’t Please

Nothing makes a burger better than a thick slice of succulent cheddar cheese sizzling nicely between the meat and bun. Problem is, at fast food restaurants this cheese isn’t cheddar. Heck, half the time it’s barely even cheese.
Research has revealed that around half the contents of most processed cheese in fast food restaurants is chemicals, additives and fat – leaving a final slice that’s less than 50% of what it claims to be. Isn’t that some barely-food for thought?

9. Beach Food

There’s an ingredient called silicon dioxide that’s often found in spicier fast food items such as chili and buffalo wings. You’re probably more familiar with its other name: sand. Nobody asked for their food to be sprinkled with bits from the beach, but fast food restaurants have gone ahead and done it anyway. Urgh.

10. Chemical Shakes

Fast food joints really know how to jazz up a milkshake, but if you knew exactly what went into these drinks, it’d be enough to make you hurl your milk-based beverage at the wall in disgust. Indeed, junk shakes contain all kinds of dodgy ingredients that spice that are pumped in to spice up their image, and in some cases contain even more chemicals than a typical garden fertiliser.

11. Immortal Burger

It’s a haunting sight when you accidentally stumble across expired food that’s been hidden away in the deep recesses of the fridge for weeks. At times like these, when you’re forced to pinch your nose and tentatively pluck the moldy monstrosity and tip-toe to your bin, it’s tempting to think “why do foods have to look so gross when they go off?”
Well as it so happens, McDonald’s burgers can last for 14 years and barely change in appearance. Great, right? Wrong. Foods are supposed to look revolting when they’ve expired – it’s a natural process and the warning sign that we humans need to realize that it’s no longer fit for consumption.
So when a burger barely changes after an entire decade, there’s only one real conclusion to be made: it isn’t really a burger at all. Whilst it will crust and harden when left to its own devices for years, a typical fast food burger contains so little water and so few naturally produced ingredients it’ll simply sit there looking pretty much exactly how it did when it was first made. A bit like plastic. Which is essentially what many takeaway burgers are.

12. Fries Forever

Unfortunately, McDonald’s fries display the same kind of ardent resistance to rot that a typical fast food burger does. An experiment conducted several years ago showed a batch of fries from the famous fast food chain looking exactly the same despite having sat in a pot for three long years. If ruthless bacteria isn’t prepared to nibble at these chips, then you sure as hell shouldn’t either.

13. The Sweet Taste of Beavers

Now might be the time to stop slurping on the vanilla and raspberry shakes that are available for selection on so many different fast food menus.
For added sweetness, the production process for these flavored drinks involves intermingling a head-slapping horrid ingredient into the mix called castoreum – which actually comes from the anal gland of the beaver. Shudder.

14. Not Really Nuggets

Golden, crispy chicken nuggets are a treat for the tongue when they’re cooked right. At fast food restaurants, however, the way that they’re produced is all wrong. Studies have shown that junk nuggets contain barely any chicken at all, instead being mainly comprised of fats, bone, nerve and tissue. Yuck.

15. Duck Feather Pie

Apple pie isn’t quite as appetizing as it might appear, at least not in fast food restaurants. These establishments add a bunch of strange chemicals to these juicy pies during the production phase in order to allow them to feed easily through the machines and speed up processing, and one of these unsavory additions is often an extract called L-cysteine.
Unfortunately, this ingredient is plucked from the most gag-inducing areas– including hog hair, human hair, and most incredibly, duck feathers. Take a pass on the apple pie in future.

16. Salads That Increase Your Size

Ordering a salad at a fast food restaurant is a bit like puffing on an e-cig inside a cigar bar. Sure, you’re being good and going for the healthy option, but you’re in an environment where harmful substances are being produced at a rapid rate, and whichever way you look at it, you’re still going be heading out the door in a worse state than you were before you came in.
Alarmingly, many typical fast food salads are stuffed with lots of saturated fats and sodium, and in some cases are even more detrimental to your health than a good old Big Mac burger.

17. Pictures Tell A Thousand Lies

Those posters you see of fast food burgers dripping with deliciousness arenever real burgers. You probably already knew this one, but you might not realize the sheer effort that the fast food companies put in to shaping and shading their pictures to make their food look mouth-watering.
Every junk food restaurant has staff solely dedicated to making their food look absolutely sensational in print form – stopping at nothing to enhance its appearance. See, it’s not just celebs who use Photoshop after all.

18. Crazy Kids

Many of the more colorful foods served up at fast food chains contain food dyes that attempt to make the finalized product resemble something close to those glossy posters slapped on the restaurant’s interior windows.
If you frequently take your kids to eat at fast food restaurants, the presence of this ingredient ought to be enough to make you change your habits. Food dyes have been proven to actively alter the behavior of children, making them more hyperactive, intense, bad-tempered and irritable, and having even more severe symptoms for kids suffering from ADHD.

19. Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice, Beetle Juice

Oh, and those food dyes that have the potential to send your kids into hyperactive overdrive have another unsettling element to them. Some of them contain the red cochineal beetle - an insect that’s frequently captured, dried and crushed to produce an “artificial coloring” that will jazz up the look of your fast food milkshake or meal.
Consumed in low doses, this particular food dye made out of crunched-up insects isn’t going to have a nasty effect on your health, but be honest, do you want to eat something that’s come from a battered up beetle?

20. Walk It Off

If none of the above facts managed to put you off purchasing fast food, consider this as a final thought: If you went into McDonald’s right now, and purchased a small burger, small fries, and a small coke, the amount of calories, salt and saturated fat present in this moderate meal means that it woulds still take you over four hours to walk it all off.
And let’s be honest, the last thing you ever feel like doing after scoffing down a MacDonald’s burger is going for a tiring 240 minute-long walk.

CAC Prophet Predicts Saraki, Gbajabiamila Will Emerge NASS Leaders

A cleric, Prophet Christopher Owolabi, has predicted a rapid socio-economic development for Nigeria with President Muhammadu Buhari at the helm of affairs.

Owolabi, is a Prophet in-charge of the Christ Apostolic Church, (CAC) Ori- Oke-Irapada, along Omu-Aran-Ilofa Express road, Omu-Aran in Kwara.

He made the prediction during a special prayer organised by the Church for peace, good governance, stability and national development for the country on Saturday.

Owolabi said what the president and its team needed most was the prayer, cooperation, perseverance and support of all stakeholders to achieve the desired change.

He urged Nigerians in all spheres of endeavour to learn from their past mistakes, misdeed and shortcomings by embracing righteousness and godliness.

“This second coming of the newly sworn-in President Muhammadu Buhari, no doubt, is clearly a divine intervention as revealed by God to salvage Nigeria’s battered socio-economic and security.
“It is only left for us as citizens and non citizen alike to be alive to our responsibilities by giving the necessary supports needed by this administration to succeed,” he said.

Owolabi, who had earlier predicted the emergence of Sen. Bukola Saraki and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the next Senate President and Speaker House of Representative respectively, said the prediction still stands.

The prophet, however, said the prediction was not borne out of love for any of the aforementioned leaders.

According to him, it is based on God’s interest in directing the affairs of the country at this critical period of its history as it is revealed to me.

“No matter any act of political commission or omission, God is the one presently in control and directing the affairs of the country,” he said.

Owolabi, who was known to have made many predictions regarding Nigeria current affairs including the emergence of Buhari and other notable governors, urged politicians to eschew corruption and other fraudulent practices.

He said election of leaders in the country presently has gone beyond personalities or individuals but through a divine intervention.

Stable power supply underway, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says careful studies are already under way to identify the quickest, safest and cost-effective way to bring light and relief to Nigerians.
Buhari made the remark in his inaugural speech on Friday in Abuja shortly after taking the oath office.
According to him, no single cause can be identified to explain Nigerian’s poor economic performance over the years than the power situation.
“It is a national shame that Nigeria spent close to 20 billion dollars on power in 16 years only generate 4,000MW of electricity.
“It is a national shame that an economy of 180 million generates only 4,000MW, and distributes even less.
“Continuous tinkering with the structures of power supply and distribution and close to $20billion expanded since 1999 have only brought darkness, frustration, misery, and resignation among Nigerians.
“We will not allow this to go on.
“We intend to attack the problem frontally through revival of agriculture, solid minerals mining as well as credits to small and medium size businesses to kick – start these enterprises.
“We shall quickly examine the best way to revive major industries and accelerate the revival and development of our railways, roads and general infrastructure,” he said.
The president said that careful studies are under way during this transition to identify the quickest, safest and most cost-effective way to bring light and relief to Nigerians.
Buhari promised to ensure that there is responsible and accountable governance at all levels of government in the country.

Bear with us as we tackle the rot – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday evening appealed to Nigerians to bear with his administration as he and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo begin the earnest work of reconstructing the country.

He says the appeal is necessary because of the collateral damage that had been done to the system before the new team comes on board.

Buhari made the appeal in his remarks at the inauguration gala night held at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The event took place a few hours after he and Osinbajo took their oaths of office and oaths of allegiance before Nigerians at the Eagles Square, Abuja, where he promised to be the President of all.

The President said the enormous damage inflicted on the country could easily be appreciated by comparing the nation’s infrastructure in 1999 with what currently prevails.
“I ask Nigerians to please bear with us. A lot of damage has been done. You can look at our infrastructure in 1999 and now and you will appreciate this,” he said.

Buhari also regretted the high rate of unemployment among youths, who he said represented about 60 per cent of the country’s population.
The President said the nation was sitting on a keg of gun powder with the prevailing unpleasant situation.
He added that his administration would focus on agriculture and mining to engage some of the unemployed youths.

He asked Nigerians to pray for the country more than they are currently doing.
“Nigeria prays a lot; we need to even pray the more for luck so that the expectations our people have, especially the youth, would be met,” he said.

Buhari promised to seek the supports of Europe, America and Nigeria’s neighbours in tackling the unemployment and security problems confronting the country.
The President noted that if Nigeria was enmeshed in crisis, the backlash on neighbouring countries would be monumental.

He added, “Nigeria has to be well secured and efficiently managed; this is what the APC is all about.
“This was why the legacy parties made the sacrifice of jettisoning their personal ambitions, tried to come together and took the bull by the horn and therefore brought it down and slaughtered it literally.’’
He said the new party in power had realised its problems and made the sacrifice.

Buhari added that his administration would articulate the nation’s requirements after studying the handover notes from the past administration and consult the immediate neighbours, Europe and US to help the nation.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar described Nigeria and democracy as the winners of the last general elections.

“Democracy is the winner and Nigeria is the winner.
“I congratulate all who made the election possible. I also congratulate former President Goodluck Jonathan for deepening democracy,’’ he said.

Atiku believed the path of honour Jonathan took would not be forgotten.
He urged the President to recognise the diversity of the country and accommodate all since the nation’s diversity remained its strength.

A National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said a new era had come for Nigeria.
He said a commitment to build a new Nigeria had been consecrated, adding that Buhari is principled, passionate and determined to develop the country.

“The challenge is yours. We that are looking up to you will continue to do so with great commitment, perseverance and we have to show that Africa can compete, Nigeria must lead,’’ Tinubu added.
