8 Areas You Should Stop Deceiving Yourself

We live in times when folks are doing things without really knowing why they are doing them. As a matter of statistics, about 85% of young folks do things simply because they see others doing them.

No one wants to take responsibility for his or her actions so they site an example of how the other guy or girl is doing same.

The crux of the matter is, if you want to do something, say it and mean it. All the talks of, "Who are we now?" after intimacy is absolutely unnecessary, sarcastic, weird and absurd.

Why must it be then you want to swim in a fresh wave of self deception and lies. Tsk!

Eight Ways You Should Stop Deceiving Yourself:

1. Sleeping in a guy's house and expecting nothing

Haha! The percentage of nothing happening when you sleep over in a guy's house is as slim as slim. When you have your own house. Seriously, it's tempting. It's better not tried and then you try it and starts telling him, " I didn't expect that from you "...Shoroniyen! Iro lon'kpa. smiley

2. Trying to mentor a crush

Hehe... Her body alone causes an "uprising" and yet she is the one you decide to mentor. Sometimes, she comes with maths questions and plans to visit you to help her complete her English homework. . Your mind has already completed the job.

3. Dressing unclad in public and getting embarrassed at guys' stare.

They'll come in public and say, "I hate guys staring at my b**bs". Are you sure? Because I think you like it. Our undergraduates today are quite good at this. These days, I wonder how the guys are surviving . Whether the thing is sagged, dried of alive, every girl wants to reveal cleavage and after guys stare, they'll "act" bewildered as though their aim hasn't been met. Duhh!

4. Stealing another girl's bf and expecting to his one and only

What goes around comes around. The law of karma is still keeping on. If ojukokoro pushed you to either "steal" or "seduce" another girl's guy, be rest assured, someone else will steal him from you, even if YOU ARE MARRIED OR SINGLE.

5. Left all the good guys in your church for a bad guy in the club and be complaining he is disturbing you for sex.

This is the worst deception ever. Stop complaining already. You got what you wanted. Good girls liking bad guys, then whom should good guys like?
There are girls who trailed this "fast lane" and began complaining afterwards as to what they should do. I ask myself, "Is she such a dummy?", no offence. " Is she asking for asking sake. How can she not know what to do?"

6. Teasing a married woman and acting shocked when she starts reciprocating

It's easy right? There are only a few married who will stop you at that point when your flattery is beginning to eat deep. Some will play along.
That doesn't make them devils. It's just the way it is. You have to stay clear of married women - especially the younger ones. Remember Karma!

7. We wouldn't have sex. Just pettings, caressing etc.

While this might walk for those who haven't been sexually active, it may not work for you who knows the way to the city gate. One thing will lead to another and another will lead to another...hehehehe.

8. Visiting the opposite sex in a cold and rainy day

It is rainy and that's when you carry yourself with your loosed sweater and jeans trouser.
It's cold and you know what that implies especially when there have been some signals, unspoken words...between both of you.

My point is: Whatever you do, don't put the blame on the next person. Take responsibility for your actions. There is this law called the law of Cause and Effect: Every nuance of whisper, sight, glances,
handshake, reaction and care don't go unnoticed. It's culminating somewhere to be unleashed someday only you can decide.

How sensible are you when that day comes and you start playacting ignorance and insensitivity?

19yrs Old Nigerian Student Dies At UK University School Hall Due To 'helium Leak

A Nigerian student named Alexander Ukwu, 19, died on Thursday April 23rd at the University of Southampton Hartley Grove Halls due to a 'Helium Leak'. Alex, who was an alumni of Loyola Jesuit College Class of 2012, was a first year student at the UK university studying MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

He was found dead around 11.26am on Thursday morning inside a student halls of residence room filled with helium, according to a statement released by the university. A team of chemical experts had been called in to make sure it was safe for students who lived at the hall to go inside the building due to a large amount of helium gas inside. But when they discovered Alex's room was locked, they broke it down and discovered his body.

The halls were then cordoned off until at least 3pm. Alex's death is not being treated as suspicious, though no-one else was injured or treated at the scene.

In a statement to Alexander’s fellow students, Neil White, head of the electronics and computer science department, said:
“I am writing to you in my capacity as Head of ECS, and with great sadness, to notify you of the death yesterday of Alexander Ukwu who was a first year student studying MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Alexander will be sadly missed and we are in contact with his family to send our condolences and sympathy to them at this difficult time.
"I understand that you may be very upset by this news, there are a number of different ways you can access support, if you feel you would like to.”

15 Mistakes Guys Are Making With Their Suits

1. Letting a white undershirt poke through above the dress shirt at the neck. This is sloppy-looking, giving off a whiff of frat boy. It's also simply unnecessary: Go buy yourself some v-neck undershirts (or better yet, wear none -- they're by no means required)

2. Not getting your jacket sleeves hemmed or tailored. Most men assume that once their pants are hemmed, they're done. But jacket sleeves are just as important, if not more so, to have tailored. Too-long sleeves look careless, and too-short sleeves look dorky. Make sure the jacket ends 1/2 inch above your shirt sleeve.

3. Choosing jackets that are too long. A good way to test the length? Let the jacket hem fall where your fingertips end naturally. It's as easy as that.

4. Forgetting to remove the brand label off the jacket sleeve. We're shaking our heads.

5. Forgetting to cut open the thread on the the back vent and the pockets. Again, smh.

6. Choosing lapels that are too big. If they're big enough for Rush Limbaugh, they're too big. 3 inches is probably a safe upper limit.

7. Wearing pants with pleats. You're not the dad from "Leave It To Beaver" (or this guy) and this isn't 1955. Flat-front pants are the way to go so you don't look 10 pounds heavier.

8. Wearing pants that are too long. Mind the break -- the break, that is, in the fabric that occurs when the bottom of your pants skim the tops of your shoes, creating a horizontal crease (a "break" in the fabric. Pants with no break mean they're so short they fall right above the shoe and flash some sock. This is trendy, but perhaps too risky for many guys. Most men should aim for a medium break -- not too rumpled or baggy, but not too short around the ankles.

9. Wearing pants with cuffs. Not only are they untrendy at the moment, cuffs visually shorten the leg, a death sentence for the petite dudes out there. For everyone else, cuffs also tend to flop around more. And no woman likes a guy whose pants flop around the ankles (money apart) .

10. Choosing shirts that are too big. There will be some gym rats with bulging muscles whose shirts are too tight. But generally, men have the problem of buying them too big. When it come to the collar, follow the one-finger rule (if you can fit more than one finger between the collar and your neck, it's too big). For the torso, just purchase a slim-cut shirt, for the love of God. If it's billowing out or bunching at the sides when you tuck it in, it's simply too big.

11. Thinking pinstripes are the only acceptable suit print -- and actually wearing them. Suits come in more print options than just pinstripes, from glen plaid to windowpane check. Adventure out into subtle prints, always neutrals on neutrals.

12. Wearing black. Yes, wearing black. You may have gotten a spiffy black suit for your Bar Mitzvah, and you may have seen your father rock a black suit to the office. But black should generally be reserved for funerals and weddings -- for daytime wear, stick with a classic navy or charcoal gray suit, paired with shoes in brown hues. Bonus: There are almost no color shirts that don't match navy or gray.

13. Going bold with French cuffs... that look like flippers. French cuffs, worn with subtle (not flashy/cutesy/anything with logos) cuff links, can add some "oomph" to a suit for a more formal occasion. But when they're too big at the wrist (or, God forbid, exceed the size of the suit sleeves they're under), they'll flop around conspicuously. Best to just steer clear entirely.

14. Letting your tie peek out from under the sides and back of your collar. Either your collar is too small or your tie is too big. Either way, make sure this never happens.

15. Focusing on flash over substance. Tie clips, pocket squares, French cuffs -- these are privileges that are earned, not simply given. You've got to master the basics first, which means a solid-fitting suit and a shirt to match in a foolproof color combo. As the saying goes,"Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist."

Be Careful Who You Sleep With

Scientists have discovered that a sizeable minority of women have Y-chromosome gene sequences in their blood. This is interesting because as you may know, Y-chromosomes are the chromosomes that belong to men, so ladies, what are they doing there, and where did they come from?

An obvious answer would be from pregnancy with a male son, every woman who has been pregnant still carries cells from her fetus within her bloodstream. Cells from the pregnancy will reside within the mother's bloodstream and organs for the rest of her life. Even if the pregnancy was terminated or if there was a miscarriage these said genes would remain with the Mother. There is a name for this so-called condition, it is called microchimerism (1), which is named after the Greek chimera, a mythical, monstrous fire-breathing animal that is composed of the parts of three animals a lion, a snake and a goat. Okay so that explains it, well at least it does for the women who have given birth to sons. But what about the women without sons that still had male cells in their bloodstream?

This called for a study (2) that was done by immunologists at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in 2004. In this study they took samples from 120 women who had never had sons. They found that 21% of these women had male DNA. The women were then categorized into 4 groups according to pregnancy history: Group A had only daughters, Group B had had one or more miscarriage(s), Group C had induced abortions and Group D had never been pregnant before. The prevalence of male michrochimerism was considerably greater in Group C although it was still present in each group. Group A 8%, Group B 22%, Group C 57% and Group D 10%.

The conclusions of this study noted that the possible sources of male michrochimerism included, known pregnancies, miscarriages, vanished male twin, or s*xual intercourse. This means, that through intercourse alone there is a potential for women to hold onto male genes and DNA within their organs and blood stream for their entire life!

I find this extremely fascinating because a spiritual friend and mentor once told me that every time you sleep with somebody you are taking on a part of them within you. I thought of this as a powerful metaphor, that we were keeping a part of them energetically. Needless to say, it made me reflect on certain things from my past and this whole analogy really made a lot of sense. But, to learn that there is actual scientific proof to back this up and that it is a physical thing, that is more than just energy. The idea that as women we are capable of taking on actual physical DNA from the men that we sleep with, was an extremely eye opening piece of information to stumble across.

This science puts a whole new meaning on s*xual intercourse as a whole. It is a very sacred and spiritual act and should be completely regarded as such. A lot of people are misusing s*x and have forgotten what it is meant for and how important and consecrated it really is. I know I can speak for many women because as a woman I know what this is like and have had experiences in the past with giving away s*x somewhat freely because of insecurity or to please or impress a man without actually even realizing how irresponsible this was. Because at the time, it was just s*x, and when you are completely disconnected from yourself, it doesn't seem like it's a big deal. Now being older and more connected to my spiritual self I realize that s*x is not something that is meant to be thrown around and given out so freely, it is a sacred act that creates a bond between two people that love and care about each other. It is so important for us (humanity) to realize this. There is a lot of power and amazing potential within this act and it has the complete capability of connecting us with our true selves.

Many of us are holding onto a lot of s*xual baggage from our past, it is not my intent to make anyone regret past experiences. Rather, to let go and embrace what the past has taught us and move forward with this knowledge and consider it wisely. With this information I'm sure you will think twice about whom you are ending up in bed with, and at the very least, I'm positive that you'll be sure to use a condom!

100-minute-old Baby Saves An Adult Stranger's Life

It’s tragic news no parent wants to hear: At 12 weeks pregnant, Jess Evans learned that one of the twins she was carrying was terminally ill and wouldn’t survive more than a day or two.

The baby, who was named Teddy, had anencephaly, a rare and fatal condition that prevents the normal development of the brain and the bones of the skull. Jess and her partner, Mike Houlston, were told Teddy would be stillborn or would die very shortly after his birth.

Doctors offered the option to abort Teddy, but Jess and Mike refused. “We thought that even if we had a moment with him, or 10 minutes, or an hour, that time was the most precious thing that we would ever experience,” Jess told Britain’s The Mirror.

After coming to terms with the news, she and her husband decided to explore whether there was any chance their baby boy could become an organ donor.

Baby Teddy was born on April 22 last year and died 100 minutes after he entered the world. Just three minutes after his death, doctors carried out a pioneering surgery to donate Teddy’s kidneys and heart valves. He became Britain’s youngest-ever organ donor and saved an adult stranger’s life.

“He lived and died a hero,” said Mike. “It’s impossible to explain how proud we are of him.”

Adds Jess: “Although he wasn’t with us very long and we brought him into the world knowing there was no hope of a life for him, we are incredibly proud of his heroism.”

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, no one is too old or too young to be a donor—the condition of the organs matters more than age. More than 123,000 people in the U.S. are currently on the waiting list for a life-saving organ transplant, and 21 people die every day while waiting for a transplant. One organ donor can save up to eight lives.

Jess and Mike say they hope their baby boy’s story will inspire other families who know they will lose their child. Says Jess: "Knowing part of your loved one is living on in someone else is comforting.”

Baby Teddy has already inspired other people to give: A JustGiving donation page his parents set up in honor of him to raise money for a charity that supports bereaved parents has already earned $16,500.

7 Myths About Sexual Orientation

What is Sexual Orientation?
If you were to put “sexual orientation definition” into an Internet search engine, you’d discover a variety of definitions. My definition is a modification of one offered by Dr. Ritch Savin-Williams in his book, The New Gay Teenager .

Sexual orientation is the preponderance of one’s emotional and physical attractions — whether stable or fluid — to males, females, both, or neither.

“Preponderance” means “the weight of the evidence.” The evidence that points to the truth about your sexual orientation is rooted in your attractions — both emotional and physical — to other people. Dr. Savin-Williams and I do not include sexual behavior in the definition because even a celibate person has a sexual orientation.

Myth #1: A person is either straight or gay.

Our culture likes to categorize people, and the categories it provides often do a poor job of capturing the diversity of the human experience. For example, we are sometimes asked to check a single box to indicate our ethnic identity, but this is an increasingly difficult task as multiethnic identities become increasingly common.

When it comes to sexual orientation, many people are neither 100% straight nor 100% gay. Indeed, recent research indicates that, when given the option, many males and females would describe themselves as “mostly straight” rather than “straight.” Thus, we need to expand the number of categories we use when we think about the diversity of sexual orientations. The categories of straight, mostly straight, bisexual, mostly gay, and gay more accurately represent the diversity of sexual orientations than the categories of straight and gay.

Myth #2: Everyone who claims to be bisexual is in denial about being gay.

Many people believe this myth. In fact, many gay people believe this myth, probably for one of the following reasons. First, some gay people believe Myth #1, that everyone is either straight or gay. This may be especially true among lesbians and gay men who are exclusively attracted to others of the same sex.

Second, some lesbians and gay men went through a “transition period” of thinking that they were bisexual because it was a less dramatic shift in sexual orientation identity than going from a straight identity to a gay identity. Consequently, some of these folks may view other people through the lens of their own experience.

So, although it is true that some people who claim to be bisexual are not yet ready to acknowledge that they are gay or lesbian, it is certainly not true that everyone who claims to be bisexual is in denial about being gay. Bisexuality really exists.

Myth #3: A bisexual person is equally attracted to both men and women.

Although some bisexuals experience equal or nearly equal emotional and physical attractions for both males and females, this is usually not the case. As researchers reported in their book Dual Attraction , there are at least three other “types” of bisexuals.

*“Heterosexual-leaning” bisexuals consistently experience greater emotional and physical attractions for people of the other sex.
*“Homosexual-leaning” bisexuals consistently experience greater emotional and physical attractions for people of their own sex.
*"Varied type" bisexuals consistently experience greater emotional attractions for one sex and great physical attractions for the other sex. (See Myth #4)

Myth #4: A person’s emotional and physical attractions should be congruent.

Emotional and physical attractions are congruent for many people, but not for everyone. (By “congruent,” I mean that emotional and physical attractions are both directed toward men, or toward women, or toward both.) In her book Sexual Fluidity , Dr. Lisa Diamond notes that romantic love and sexual desire are fundamentally distinct experiences that evolved for different reasons. Sexual desire evolved to promote survival of the species through procreation. Romantic love evolved from the bond between infants and their parents, thus increasing the infants’ chances of survival. Thus, there is no biological requirements that romantic love and sexual desire be congruent.

Despite the tendency for people to experience congruence between their emotional and physical attractions, some people experience stronger (or exclusive) emotional attractions for men and stronger (or exclusive) physical attractions for women. Or vice versa. This is the “varied type” of bisexual experience noted in the discussion of Myth #3.

Myth #5: Gender is the basis of everyone's sexual orientation.

The concept of sexual orientation presumes that gender plays a fundamental role in directing our desires. Thus, one might ask, “Am I attracted to men, women, or both?” When people imagine the qualities they seek in a desirable partner, those qualities may include gender-based physical traits (e.g., a muscular chest, voluptuous bosoms). It is also likely that those desirable qualities include gender-neutral traits (e.g., a sense of humor, self-confidence, kindness, dependability, playfulness, passion).

When most people find another person to be desirable, they are responding to a mix of gender-based and gender-neutral traits. For others, however, gender-based traits are largely or totally irrelevant. As Dr. Diamond notes in her book Sexual Fluidity , some people can “respond erotically to anyone with a desirable personality or with whom they have a strong connection, regardless of that person’s gender.” These individuals often describe themselves as being “attracted to the person, not the gender,” a phenomenon to which she devotes a chapter of her book. These person-based attractions challenge the commonly-held assumption that gender is the basis of everyone’s attractions to others.

Myth #6: A person’s sexual orientation is unchanging throughout their lifetime.

Many people — perhaps most people — experience constancy in the preponderance of their emotional and physical attractions throughout their lifetime. But constancy is not the experience of everyone. There are at least two possibilities of how a person might experience a change in the preponderance of their attractions.

First, research has shown that many youth who ultimately come out as gay experienced both opposite-sex and same-sex attractions during childhood and adolescence. But as time passed, the opposite-sex attractions faded or disappeared, and the same-sex attractions emerged as dominant or exclusive. Because of this developmental phenomenon, some youth identify initially as bisexual, but when opposite-sex attractions fade or disappear, they later identity as gay or lesbian.

Second, whereas some people experience their emotional and physical attractions becoming more focused toward males or females over time, others have the opposite experience. Some adults who have historically experienced only same-sex or other-sex attractions find themselves having one or more experiences that expands their sexuality as they grow older. For example, a woman who has loved only women may fall in love with a man (probably to the confusion of her lesbian friends), and she may revise her sexual orientation identity from lesbian to mostly lesbian or bisexual.

Myth #7: A person can change their sexual orientation from gay to straight if they really want to.

Because the mix of emotional and physical attractions toward males and females can change over time for some people, anti-gay advocates have seized upon this phenomenon as “proof” that a gay person can become straight through certain interventions, usually a combination of prayer and “reparative therapy.”

To be sure, a person can change their sexual behavior , regardless of their physical attractions. They can choose to be celibate or engage in sexual behavior only with people of the other sex. And sometimes a gay person becomes emotionally attached to someone of the other sex, loves them, and marries them, perhaps happily. For such individuals, physical attractions to persons of the same sex persist, however. But a person cannot change from having exclusive attractions to people of the same sex to having exclusive attractions to people of the other sex.

Should I Reduce My Age So I Can Go For NYSC?

It is known nationwide that in the national youth service scheme mobilisation that students that are eligible to go for service after the university must be less than 30 years. Majority of students that graduated are above 30 years and they swore a fabricated affidavit and declaration of age so as to also join to make them young and also join in serving the nation and to enjoy flexing in camp.

Is it right? Must a child of God do this? Many of my aged colleagues also do this and claim is right?

Lets look at God's view as concerning this widely practice age falsification.
PROVERBS 11 VS 1 - a false balance/declaration is abomination to the LORD but a just weight is His delight.
PROVERBS 12 VS 22 - lying lips are abomination to the LORD but they that deal/declare truly are His delight.
COLOSSIANS 3 VS 9 - do not lie to one another because you have put off the old man and his deeds and have put on the new man in Christ.

So God calls this a lie. And there is nothing like a small lie or big lie. All are abomination before the Lord. How can you be 35 years and you go and swear a false oath in the court that you are 28 just to make you go for youth service.

If you have done this or you're guilty of this. REPENT. Swearing a false oath of age will undoubtedly lead you to hell fire. What shall it profit you to enjoy and flex at youth service for one year and then lose your soul in hell. Repent ye liars and deal truly.

Indonesia Set To Execute Drug Convicts, Including 4 Nigerians

A foreign embassy official on Friday in Jakarta, said on condition of anonymity that Indonesia has concluded arrangements to execute several foreign drug convicts on Saturday, including four Nigerians.

The official said some diplomats of the countries of the affected convicts have been requested to travel to Nusakambangan, the prison island off Java where the inmates are to be executed.

A government official also said on condition of anonymity that authorities have ordered preparations for the execution of 10 death-row inmates, including two Australians that have been the subject of a high-profile campaign for clemency.

Tony Spontana, spokesman for the Attorney General’s office, confirmed that a letter, issued on Thursday by a deputy attorney general, told prosecutors to “prepare for and carry out the executions.

“It’s not a letter of notification to the convicts”, he said.

He said convicts are typically notified of their executions three days in advance.

Spontana said the 10 inmates would all be executed at the same time.

He said the other drug inmates facing execution are four from Nigeria, and one each from Indonesia, the Philippines and Brazil.

Spontana said one convict, Martin Aderson, first identified by officials as Ghanaian, was actually from Nigeria.

He also said the Attorney General’s office was awaiting a verdict, due Friday, on a case review request filed by the Indonesian convict, Zainal Abidin.

The Australian government has repeatedly asked for clemency on behalf of its nationals Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

Peter Morrisey, a lawyer for the Australian pair, said he was concerned by the letters, as he understood the legal process was not yet over.

“That looks as if the attorney general’s office is determined to press ahead and hustle through.

“That’s the zone we’re in now. We haven’t got the 72-hour knock but that could be imminent’’, he added.

Julian McMahon, another lawyer for the men, said the families of Sukumaran and Chan were travelling to Indonesia, and some members were already there.

Meanwhile, the European Union has criticised Indonesia’s plans to execute the convicts, saying the death penalty was not a solution to the country’s growing drug problem.

A French citizen, Serge Atlaoui, was among the inmates facing the firing squad.

Federica Mogherini, EU Foreign Policy Chief, said the rejections in Indonesia of retrials, including in the case of a French citizen, bring closer the regrettable prospect of further executions.

The governments of the Philippines, France and Brazil have also appealed to Indonesian President Joko Widodo, to show mercy and spare their respective citizens. (dpa/NAN)

Are you planning to create a blog soon? Do you manage a blog currently? Here are some basic tips on how to make a good blog.

1. Inspiring Blog Design
Your blog layout and colour combinations are the first things visitors notice when they land on your blog. And you as it is often said, 'the first impression matters'. You shouldn't drive away visitors that you have laboured to acquired through a shabby blog template or shouting colours. When customizing your blog design, remember it's about the visitors not you. If you don't have what it takes to edit your blog design, go online and search for beautifully styled blog themes which can be paid or hire a professional designer. You should try to avoid designs that would hamper your site SEO.

2. The Right Niche
It is good to have width but better to have depth. Over the years, blogger have realised that blogs with a defined theme and focus often do better than the general 'all purpose' ones. This is because Google gives more credibilty to them because they appear as authority blogs in their chosen niches.
However, not all niches are profitable. You should try to blend your passion with profitability while searching for a topic of discussion for your blog. Picking a topic you have scanty knowledge about many result in frustration that make many new bloggers quit as early as they start.

3. Regular Quality Content

The quality of the articles on your blog is its true value. Content and design are the main criteria used in judging whether a blog is good or bad. You should take your time to come up with useful articles so that visitors will find it necessary to subscribe to your future updates. Copying and publishing articles that people can get elsewhere won't take your blog anywhere. Aside quality, you should endeavour to publish regularly. If you can keep up rolling out quality posts regularly, your blog would soon hit the limelight.

4. Build Readers' Loyalty

To make your blog successful your writing style should connect with the audience. To achieve this, make sure your posts is directed at solving visitors problems. Study how established bloggers with lots of comments on their blog write. The way you conclude your posts should encourage readers to drop comments too. Creating a relationship with your audience is the surest way to build fans' loyalty so that can find it interesting to return to your blog over and over again. Set up social media profiles for your blog on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Google+. This has an additional benefit of increasing blog traffic.

5. Stand Out
Dare to be different. To stand out from the millions of blogs out there, there should something unique about your blog. Most successful blogs are known for one thing or the other. For some, it may be the blog design, while others may stand out with their content. You should think up ways to make your blog different. Ask yourself, what will people say is specific to my blog?

Success in blogging takes time, months and even years. The main point is to enjoy what you do so that you don't get easily frustrated out.

If you want to make your blog stand out from the crowd and get that traffic you have always desired, ensure you have all these points in place.

I wish you success in your blogging career!

Godwin Emefiele Tells Buhari To Sell Off Nigeria's Oil Stakes

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has advised the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to consider selling off nearly half of Nigeria’s Joint Venture equity with multinational oil companies, to enable the new government raise a huge balance for immediate developmental projects.

If Mr. Buhari accepts the advice, Nigeria stands to generate about N14.9 trillion, about three times the country’s annual budget, which should be immediately ploughed into providing badly needed infrastructure development, Mr. Emefiele said.

The Nigerian economy has faced continued pressure from spiralling debts, in the face of dwindling revenues resulting from falling global crude oil prices.
Many of the 36 states of the federation are barely able to meet their obligations to contractors and workers from their monthly allocations from the federation account.

Foreign reserves slumped to about $29.9 billion as at March ending.

The CBN governor said the incoming administration should give serious thoughts to the proposal for Nigeria to scale down its majority stakes in the joint ventures currently with various multinational oil companies in the country.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation currently holds, on behalf of the Nigerian government, at least 55 per cent equity in the joint ventures with Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron, Total, Nigerian Agip, and Pan Ocean.

The partnership means for each daily production of oil in Nigeria, the government receives 55 per cent after production cost had been deducted.

Mr. Emefiele wants government to shed at least 25 per cent of that equity to raise some emergency funds for infrastructure development in key sectors of the economy.

The CBN governor said relevant officials in the Bank have already been directed to evaluate prospects of the proposal to see how it could be realized from the JVs, which account for more than 50 percent of Nigeria’s daily average oil production of 2.3 million barrels.
Mr. Emefiele told the Financial Times of London that the outcome of the study would be presented to Mr. Buhari when he assumes office on May 29.

The governor expressed confidence that Nigeria may rake in about $75 billion (about N14.93 trillion) if the government agrees to cut its JV equity to only 30 per cent.

Private equity companies, he said, could be encouraged to take over the relinquished government stakes and compete with the oil companies, to contribute to the development of the industry.

Part of the proceeds from the equity sale, Mr. Emefiele said, could be utilized in rebuilding macroeconomic buffers in the economy through investments in transport and energy developments projects to grow the economy and create jobs.

He said the government could adjust upwards, petroleum profit tax payable by the oil companies, to compensate for the reduction in government’s equity.
The equity cut back proposal, the CBN governor explained, was one of the most attractive options available in view of the impact of the drastic drop revenue earnings in recent times and the need to avoid piling up more debts.

While Mr. Emefiele’s proposal could meet stiff resistance from oil firms, politicians and their allies dependent on oil resources for patronage, the idea would likely be welcomed by others who support the idea of unbundling the NNPC and curbing corruption by allowing private participation in the sector.

For years, Nigeria’s oil production has stagnated at about two million barrels daily average due to several factors, including the failure to pass the Petroleum Industry Bill.

During his campaigns, Mr. Buhari gave a hint regarding what his administration would do after assumption of office on May 29.

“Our manifesto says we are going to break up the NNPC,” he suggested, “but the ultimate answer may well be to divest the whole thing. It is an idea that will be seriously looked at.”

Mr. Buhari, however, said the immediate priority of his administration would be to get the industry back to a position where revenues that belong to the people are getting into the federation account by stopping the leakages, which is costing the nation billions, if not trillions, of naira..

“Fayose Has Not Paid Us Since September Yet You Are Fighting For Him” – Workers

“Fayose has not paid us since September yet you are fighting for him” – Workers slam labour leaders

The rally cry by the Governor of Ekiti State Ayo Fayose to citizens of the state in a bid to tilt the advantage to his side in the continuing feud with the House of Assembly has caused divisions in the labor sector as some workers in the state are said to be unhappy with labour leaders who have allegedly abandoned their primary duties of agitating for their welfare and instead chosen to dabble in politics.

Acting under the aegis of Ekiti Enlightened Workers’ Forum, EEWF, the workers slammed the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) for their role in locking 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers out of the state.

The workers noted that it was wrong for labor to have joined hoodlums in blocking roads and causing statewide panic claiming that labor leaders were pursuing personal gains.

They wondered if labour had become an branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, saying the issue of workers’ welfare rather than taking sides with political gladiators should concern the unionists.

The workers urged the union leaders to steer clear of politics, especially the raging impeachment crisis and face their welfare, which they said has affected their morale. Also, the interests of workers, they claimed, should be the topmost priority of their leaders and this must not be traded on the altar of politics which they believed labour leaders have turned into a lucrative business venture when civil servants and other workers are wallowing in poverty.

The EEWF further stated that it was callous of NLC, TUC and JNC leaders to fight an unnecessary political war when the labour force have not been paid salaries since September, maintaining that the government has since received September allocation, hence payment should not be delayed. Other demands of the aggrieved workers include payment of 2014 leave bonus, remittance of various deductions, such as cooperative, check-off dues and loans to banks made from workers’ July to September 2014 salaries.

“It should be stressed that workers rely on ‘sharp-sharp’ loans and rather for the leadership of Labour to demand for improved welfare, the so-called labour leaders are conniving with the government to introduce another form of ‘sharp-sharp’ loans to workers. The burden resulting from interests on these loans is too hard for workers to bear! Government is a continuum, as soon as a government is sworn in, such government acquires assets and liabilities of the previous administration. The above matters are issues which the leadership of labour is expected to pursue but the so-called self-imposed/anointed leaders in NLC, TUC and JNC have vowed not to pursue because of their personal gains. At any rate, our present state of labour ineptitude may remain with us for a long time to come, unless the good workers of this state take some drastic steps to stem this unfortunate tide,” they said.
