Woman Bites Off Tenant’s Ear Over 1,500naira Electricity Bill

A middle-aged lady, Miss Faith Idehen, has been rushed to the Central Hospital Benin City, Edo State after sustaining a deep ear bite during a fight with the daughter of her landlord in the state.

Idehen, aged 23 years and a hairdresser at the Oba Market located in the heart of Benin City, had a raw deal with her landlord’s daughter simply identified as Vivian, who is a single mother of two, over delayed payment of N1, 500 electricity bill.
Investigation revealed Friday that the victim along with her mother and other siblings had occupied the two bedroom apartment belonging to the landlord at No: 2 Jesus Powerlane Off Ojo Street Ugbiyoko, when Vivian engaged her in a war of words over the matter.

Idehen was said to have left the compound in a commercial bus for her place of work at the Oba Market but was trailed behind by Vivian who swooped on her at the popular Yanga Market within the area, an action that resulted in a fierce fight that drew a large crowd of traders and passersby.

It was gathered that the landlord’s daughter demanded for the monthly electricity bill of N1, 00 from the tenant who pleaded with her for understanding after the later had paid N1,000 deposit with a promise to pay the balance of N500 when she returns back from work later in the day but the landlord’s daughter refused to listen.

The angered Vivian engaged her unsuspecting tenant in a fight and bit off Faith’s left ear which made her to faint in the process.

It took the intervention of sympathisers for the younger hairdresser to gain consciousness even as she bled profusely and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

However, policemen attached to Oba Market Police Station were quickly invited who also arrested the landlord’s daughter.

Narrating her ordeal, Idehen said: “I didn’t know that I was being trailed even after I pleaded with her that I will pay the balance of N500 when I return from work. The moment I alighted from the bus I heard someone calling Faith, Faith and immediately I turned, behold it was Vivian. She grabbed my hair and started beating me and before I knew what happened I saw my ear dangling with blood gushing out. I was later rescued and rushed to the Central hospital where it was later stitched.”
Sources close to the police station said the suspect would soon be charged to court for assault and attempted murder.

The state Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mr. Steven Onwochei, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), when contacted said the command was yet to be informed about the incident

What Would You Do If Your Spouse Told You He Stole N100m From Government?

Marriage counsellors say it is normal for people to share their workplace experiences with their spouses; in fact, they are supposed to act as confidants to each other. Assuming their spouses confide in them that they stole N100m from government coffers, some Nigerians told SATURDAY PUNCH what they would do

I will order her to return it
Prince Oladayo

That money doesn’t belong to her and she doesn’t have the right to have stolen it in the first place. That’s a criminal act and can lead her to jail. If she goes to jail, how will she enjoy the money? Wouldn’t that affect the reputation of our family? I cannot encourage her to keep the money. She must find a way to return it to the coffers of the government. It’s the people’s money and should not be spent for personal use. I will order her to return it.

I hate greed and corruption
Sharon Enyi

One thing I’ve observed is that government officials who steal are never satisfied. They are always greedy. Even if they have millions in their account, they are never okay. Is that a life? On the other hand, men with ideas rule the world. Look at people like Bill Gates, what greed will drive him to steal government’s money when he has ideas that can give him billions? It is poverty-minded people who steal because they don’t ever think they can make it without being corrupt.

It’s risky to spend such money
Odeniran Femi

First, I would ask her whether anyone else in her department or ministry knew about it because for her to have stolen that kind of money, some people would have been aware of it. If she said yes, then it must be very risky to spend such money. If she said no, then I cannot really say what will happen, but I will ask for God’s grace to resist the temptation.

I don’t want his confession
Funmike Ojewale

I don’t want his confession. If someone steals what doesn’t belong to them, is it not the proper thing for them to return it? It is when people want to seek for support that they confess such a thing. Ideally, he should have simply gone ahead and confessed to the government and return their money. I don’t want my husband to steal before he makes me happy, so he should do away with unclean sources of money.

Stealing is different from corruption
Eki Lucky

Like one of our former presidents would always say that stealing is different from corruption, that’s just the scenario here. This is just stealing and that doesn’t mean my wife is corrupt. As a matter of fact, I hate corruption with passion. I would tell my wife never to try such a thing again because doing it more than once is what can be termed corruption.

I’ll tell him to return it
Wale Rachael

There should be no debate about this. He should quickly return the money before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission goes after him. But if he’s willing to spend the rest of his life in jail, he may not yield to my suggestion. It’s just that he’s going to bring shame on our family and may affect the future of our children somehow.

Reputation is better than ill-gotten money
Ibirimo Obiene

I value someone’s reputation more than any other thing. How could she even have thought of such an evil thing? The Bible says a good name is better than gold and silver. That is my opinion about life. It is not about how much you can gather, but how much impact you make while you live. Stealing from the government is not a way of impact; it is destructive. I would ask her to return the money immediately.

He should return the stolen fund
Ada Rejoice

I am not going to encourage him to steal. In fact, I don’t believe a man must have millions of naira to make his wife and family happy. I will persuade him to return the stolen funds but if he doesn’t take to my advice, he should be ready to bear the consequences of his action. The mentality of ‘it’s-our-share-of-the-national-cake’ must end.

Our system doesn’t encourage returning such money
Solomon Ivoke

So many people who have stolen the wealth of this country blind are still walking on the streets like the rest of us. They are not bothered because they have not been arrested and jailed. Imagine someone stealing N1bn and asking them to pay N1m out of the money for bail, they still get to enjoy the remaining N900m. if my spouse is arrested, we can bail her out with N100,000 and the case is over. I am not saying this is what I will do, but I am just saying until we have very strong anti-corruption checks in place, we cannot move forward.

I don’t want a thief husband
Awotunde Biodun

I don’t want a husband that steals, whether from people or from the government. It’s a shameful act that should never be encouraged. When a man steals, his children too may likely take after him in future. So what sort of foundation is that? Of course, that kind of money can be tempting to resist, but if you have the fear of God, you won’t steal from people. You will work hard to make your own money.

Masquerades Arrested By Police For Stealing 57,000naira From A Trader (See Photo)

The Police in Nsukka, Enugu State, on Saturday arrested two masquerades in Ovoko community, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State for robbing a trader along the Nsukka-Obollo-Afor Road.

DAILY POST gathered that in the past few weeks, masquerades had continuously mounted road blocks in such areas as Eha-Alumona, Ovoko-Obollo-Afor, among several other public roads, inflicting heavy wounds on motorists and dispossessing them of their valuables.

A police officer in Nsukka who pleaded anonymity told DAILY POST on Saturday that the police moved into action when the victim, Mr. Chinonso Ezewaji reported the matter at Nsukka Police Area command.

He said when two of the masquerades were arrested, others ran way.

According to him, “when the police team reached Ovoko, along Nsukka–Obollor-Afor Road, where the masquerades were operating, two of the policemen in the bus pretended as if they wanted to give the two masquerades money; they stretched their hands to collect it and that was how we hand-cuffed them and others ran away.

“Eight masquerades have been on that road since morning tormenting road users; the two of them we arrested have denied involvement in robbing the trader, but they have given the names of the culprits.

“When we searched one of the arrested masquerades, we saw Indian hemp in his pocket”.

When contacted, DSP Ebere Amarizu, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident, noting that the police has commenced investigations into the matter.

Amarizu urged communities to regulate and monitor those who wear masquerades as some of them were hiding on it to harass, intimidate and rob innocent members of the public.

“Police is not against any culture but community leaders must know the character of people they allow to wear masquerades in the name of culture.

“A masquerade has no right to mount a road block on busy roads where motorists, motorcyclists and other road ply on daily basis.

“The police has commenced investigations and must get to the root of this matter as issue of masquerades disturbing people has become a recurring decimal”, he said.

Narrating his experience, the victim (Ezewaji), a trader, said he was on his way from Nsukka to Obollo-Afor when the masquerades in Ovoko stopped him, gave him the beating of his life, after which “they searched me and collected N57, 000 from my pockets”.

Meanwhile, the two masquerades, who identified themselves as Kenchukwu Eze, a carpenter and Ejiofor Eze , brick-layer alleged that they were not part of the team that robbed the victim. They gave the name of the masquerade involved as Chima Mamah.

“We only collected N20, N100 and N500 from people; we didn’t participate in collecting the N57,000″, one of them claimed.

However, kenechukwu Eze, while admitting that the police recovered Indiam Hemp from him, said “If police will release me, I will not wear masquerade or smoke Indian hemp again. It is the left-over of the one we smoked before coming out”, he said

Photo: Guiness World Records recognizes 112 year old Japanese as the oldest man in the world 2015

Yasutaro Koide, a 112-year-old resident of Nagoya, Japan, who recommends not smoking, drinking and avoiding stress as his secret to a long life, was on Friday August 21 officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest man. Koide was born on March 13, 1903, and worked as a tailor. He became the oldest man with the death of Sakari Momoi of Tokyo in July at age 112.

Three of his seven children, two of his nine grandchildren and one great grandchild attended a ceremony at a nursing home where he was given a plaque and a green vase. Koike was beaming, but teary-eyed as those attending applauded.

"The best thing is to not overdo,” he said. He also recommended not smoking or drinking, and said his favourite food is bread. Koike also recommends “enjoying everything,” according to local reports that say he can read the newspaper without glasses.

The newspaper Chunichi Shimbun quoted a granddaughter, Aya Kikuchi, saying her grandfather once tended to be very strict about manners. “He was very stubborn, but he got nicer with age,” she said.

“His lifestyle is one that avoids stress.” One of the world’s fastest-ageing countries, Japan has about 54,000 centenarians. So many, in fact, the government is reportedly considering scrapping or scaling back a 52-year-old programme that presents each person reaching the century mark with an ornate sake dish and letter of congratulations from the prime minister.

The world’s oldest person is Susannah Mushatt Jones of Brooklyn, New York, who celebrated her 116th birthday on Monday
