Arsenal have been drawn alongside BATE Borisov, Cologne and Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League group stage...
Arsene Wenger’s side, who missed out on the Champions League after finishing fifth in the Premier League last season, will face the Belarusian champions, for whom their former player Alexander Hleb played later in his career, German side Cologne and 1991 European Cup winners Red Star Belgrade in six matches to be played between September and December.
It is the first time in 20 years that Arsenal have started a European campaign in the Europa League or Uefa Cup.
Everton, meanwhile, were drawn in what must be viewed as the most competitive of the 12 groups, alongside Lyon, who will host this season’s final, Serie A’s Atalanta and Cypriot team AEL Limassol.
Everton completed a play-off victory over Hajduk Split of Croatia on Thursday to make it into the Europa League for the first time since 2009-10.
AC Milan, joint favourites to win Europa League alongside Arsenal, were drawn against Austria Vienna, Rijeka and AEK Athens.
