Serious Fire guts sacked Delta lawmaker "Godwin Abigor" official quarters, The Whole House Burnt Down

The official residence of the member representing Warri South Constituency II in the Delta State House of Assembly, Godwin Abigor, has been gutted by fire.

The incident, which many observers described as a double tragedy, occurred on Monday, days after he was sacked by the Appeal Court sitting in Benin...

The appellate court in its ruling upturned the judgement of the lower tribunal, which upheld the election victory of the Social Democratic Party candidate, and ordered that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mrs. Omawumi Udoh, be sworn-in as the duly elected member.

Abigor’s duplex, which is in the Assembly complex, Asaba, was said to have caught fire at about 1pm.

It was gathered that the cause of the fire had yet to be established as of the time of this report.

Our correspondent also learnt that nobody was in the house when the fire, which razed down the upper part of the house, started.

The state Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Chika Ossai, told PUNCH Metro at the scene of the incident that firefighters from the state fire service prevented the fire from spreading to the ground floor.

Efforts to reach the lawmaker proved abortive as he was said to be out of the town. Some persons were, however, seen salvaging household items from the ground floor.
