Advance team of the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday, clashed with the organisers of the inter-religious farewell service in honour of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, over the allocation of front table at the event.
The programme was meant to start at 10.30 am but by 8.30 am, protocol officers attached to Osinbajo were already at the venue, in a bid to secure an ample position for their principal in the front row.
But before their arrival, organisers of the event had already labelled the tables but incidentally, the table targeted by Osinbajo’s men was already allotted to Governor Rauf Aregbesola and state government officials. An argument ensued as the VP’s protocol officers insisted on taking the table for Osinbajo.

The leader of the team was livid with rage, questioning the authority of one of the organisers named Ladi to allocate tables to other visitors ahead of the VP. He threatened to deal with the host while Ladi reminded him that Ile-Ife is different from Abuja.
“This is Ife and not Abuja. If care is not taken, I will move you out of this venue. I am at home and you are a visitor,” Ladi said.
It took the intervention of prominent palace elders to quell the disagreement before it got out of hand.
The table was left for Aregbesola and his men while another one was given to the VP.
Osinbajo arrived the venue of the event at 11.12 am after the commencement of the programme.
