10 feared dead, houses set ablaze as Boko Haram launches fresh attacks on Borno villages

Suspected members of the dreaded  Boko Haram sect on Friday evening invaded Sabon Gari, Manjakwa villages of Hawul Local Government Area of Borno state killing no fewer than 10 residents with several others injured.

The insurgents according to reliable sources from the area stormed the village at about 9pm with AK47 rifles and petrol bombs, which they used in setting many houses ablaze after killing innocent residents and looted their farm produce.

The insurgents also snatched one of the three new brand Hilux patrol vehicles donated to vigilante group by one spirited individual (names withheld) who hail from the area.

Hawul is predominantly Christian community south and about 230kms drive from Maiduguri that have witnessed series of Boko Haram attacks, unfortunately, there were no single military presence in the area despite plea from concerned stakeholders.

The terrorists according to Mallam Yakubu Isa Manjakwa came in large numbers, wrecked havoc and succeeded in sacking the whole of the farming communities.

“Another disaster has befallen us today because the terrorists have attacked our village and killed many armless people on sight. They operated for more than 4 hours before they left.

“So far, we have counted 9 people, while one person out of the many others that sustained injuries died this morning (Saturday) as a result of severe gunshot wounds,” Isa said.

The immediate past Caretaker Chairman of Hawul Local Government Area, Dr. Andrew Usman Malgwi confirmed the attacks on Sabon Gari Manjakwa, but however insisted that he did not have details on the number of casualties
