Dandruff is a scalp condition and it is usually seen in form of white flakes trapped loosely onto your hair.
Whenever the dandruff flakes shed, they tend to sit messily all over your back and shoulders. Sometimes when the scalp infection is a bit more than milder, the dandruff flakes seem yellowish and your scalp begins to itch. In other cases, sticky dandruff flakes may cling to your scalp along with greasy secretions. In whatever form dandruff occurs in your hair, it conveys that your scalp is unhygienic and you need to immediately get rid of the dandruff.
Dandruff can be got rid of by using many commercial hair cleansing products. But such products are chemical based and bring side effects. There are many home remedies for dandruff and few of them are found on your kitchen shelf.
Henna Treatment for Dandruff
Henna treatments are a great way to pamper your hair and they also help to prevent dandruff.
Henna treatment is carried out as follows:
- To 4 teaspoons each of henna powder, coffee and lemon juice, add 2 raw eggs, 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seed powder and tea water just enough to mix all the ingredients into a smooth paste. (Tea-water in this case is made by boiling used tea leaves once again in some water, cool and then strain the liquid).
- Apply the henna paste on your hair, allow it to stay on for an hour and then rinse your hair clean.
- In case you do not prefer to use egg in the treatment, compensate it with some extra tea water.
- This treatment not just helps to eliminate dandruff, but conditions your hair also by adding body, strength and shine to it.
Baking Soda & Salt Remedy for Dandruff
Baking Soda
If flaky dandruff is your concern and you want it under control, just turn to good old baking soda for help. First wet your hair and then take some baking soda and rub it briskly onto your scalp. Rinse your hair thoroughly and then dry. You can repeat this process each time you wash your hair, but remember to use only baking soda and not shampoo. At first your hair may seem very dry but gradually your scalp will begin to secrete natural oils, and resulting in hair that is softer and free from dandruff.
The components you will require are lemon, curd and honey. Use two tablespoons of curd, three drops of honey and lemon juice respectively. Blend together and administer it to the scalp, leave it on for almost fifteen minutes, then scrub for fifteen minutes before washing your hair.
Salt as Remedy
Salt is an abrasive agent and this very nature of it suits aptly to get rid of dandruff. To eliminate dandruff, simply shake out some salt from a salt-shaker onto your scalp. Then give a massage to your scalp, and try to work out the salt all through your hair. You will notice that while you were working on the salt you have loosened the dandruff too. With this done, your scalp is ready for a shampoo.
Curd and Lemon Mix Remedy for Dandruff

The ingredients required in this remedy are curd, lemon and honey. Totwo tablespoons of curd, add three drops each of lemon juice and honey respectively. Blend all ingredients together and apply the resultant mix to your scalp. Allow it to stay on for about 15 minutes, then scrub your hair well and wash it thoroughly.
Beet Root Remedy for Dandruff
Beet root is good for your hair to eliminate dandruff and to also give it a beautiful tint. Boil some beetroot slices in water. Then remove it from water and blend the pieces into a paste. Massage the beetroot paste onto your scalp. Allow it to stay on for at least 15 minutes. Then wash your hair as usual with tepid water.
Lemon Juice for Dandruff
Fresh lime juice is also another effective home remedy for dandruff and an itchy scalp. Simply dab some lemon juice all over your scalp by using a cotton ball. Allow the lemon essence to stay on your scalp for some time before you rinse your hair with a good shampoo and hair conditioner. Try to press your scalp with your fingers in circular motion. This exercise is a good home remedy for scalp that is itching. (Massaging with tea tree oil or peppermint oil is also another remedy for an itchy scalp).
While lemon juice is great for your hair, it takes at least two sittings for your dandruff to be totally eliminated. You can repeat this exercise as and when you require.

Although dandruff malady is not a serious disorder, yet it needs attention as it makes your scalp itchy, greasy and utterly disgusting!
