At 11:15am, some hoodlums stormed the Senate chamber and made away with the mace.
The plenary had been disrupted while the sergeants-at-arms are battling with the men to retrieve the mace.
Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided, said the invaders would be punished while calling on senators to settle down for continuation of the proceeding.

The senate sergeant-at-arms tried to stop them but they overpowered him and in the process, gunshots were reportedly fired.
The attack on the National Assembly might not be unconnected to the recent suspension of a senator.
In the meantime, activities in the Senate has been place on hold and senators are reportedly scampering for safety
