Nigeria Military Authorise Rita Dominic's '76' Team To Shoot Boko Haram Movie

The creators of ‘76,’ an award-winning epic movie about the overthrow of Major-General Murtala Muhammed, will now follow-up with a feature on the Boko Haram saga.

Adonijah Owiriwa of Adonis Production, which co-produced ‘76’ with Prince Tonye Princewill, said a story was already being developed and that the Nigerian Military was collaborating on the project.

In an interview with Vanguard, Owirira said Princewill and Izu Ojukwu, the Director of ‘76’ and himself, recently spent one week in Maiduguri, conferring with top Military brass.

According to him, “the Military was deeply impressed with what we did with ‘76.’ So they approached us and expressed an interest in collaborating on a movie about the Boko Haram conflict.”

‘76,’ an oblique off-take on the assassination of Nigeria’s charismatic Military Head of State 41 years ago, filmed in 2012 mainly at the Army Barracks in Ibadan, garnered eight nominations in the 2017 African Movie Academy Awards, AMAA, winning Best Nigerian Film and Best Production Design awards.
