IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Rejects Bail As Fayose Shows Him Solidarity

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has rejected the bail granted him by Binta Nyako, justice of the federal high court, Abuja. ..

Nyako had granted Kanu bail on stringent terms on Tuesday. One of the conditions is that he must present a Jewish leader as surety.
But a family source told TheCable that the IPOB leader had rejected the order for his conditional release.

“Nnamdi Kanu has said he will not accept the bail until other persons he was charged alongside are granted bail as well,” the source said.

“You know how he is. That is his decision.”

However, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu’s lawyer, said his client had not rejected the bail.

TheCable understands that Israel and Sally Kanu, the IPOB leader’s parents, are not satisfied with the conditions given for the release of their son, hence they have called for his unconditional release.

Kanu alongside other three accused persons – Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi – are facing trial for alleged treasonable felony.

Nyako had quashed six of the 11-count charges filed against them. But she sustained the rest which bordered on treason.

Kanu has been in Kuje prisons, Abuja since 2015.

There were wild celebrations in the south-east at the news of Kanu securing bail. But the celebrations were punctured when the conditions of his release became clear.

Ayo Fayose, Ekiti state governor, and Femi Fani-Kayode were among those who came to show solidarity with the IPOB leader at the court on Tuesday.
