Popular Music Icon, Innocent ‘2baba’ Idibia has announced the cancellation of the IStandWith Nigeria protest earlier planned to hold in Lagos and Abuja on the 6th of February.....
The international star made the announcement via a video message on his Instagram page late Saturday. He based his decision on security concerns relating to the planned march which he said might be hijacked by hoodlums.
Although it said it is the constitutional right of every Nigerian to protest, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Owoseni expressed fears that the pro-government and anti-government protest might be infiltrated by hoodlums.
Denying widely ciculated media report that the police vowed to stop the protests, Owoseni in an interview with Channels TV said they have put mechanism in place to ensure a peaceful rally.
But despite his initial insistence to forge ahead with the protest, Tuface in his video message on Saturday said: “Dear Nigeria, after due consultations, it has become clear that the OneVoiceNigeria protest schedule to hold in Lagos and Abuja on Monday, 6th February is under threats of hijack by interests not aligned with our ideals. According to his, security concerns.”
He said the intent of his point is that no protest is worth the live of any Nigerian, rather it is motivated by the need to demand a better live for the ordinary Nigeria.
As a result, he announced the cancellation of the planned protest.
“I therefore announce the cancellation of the planned protest. We’ll share further information in due course,” Tuface said in the instagram video.
