The Upper Atbara Dams Complex, built by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTGC) and the China Water and Electric Corporation (CWE), began generating electricity on Thursday, February 2nd in Sudan. A ceremony was held on that day to celebrate the milestone moment....
Tens of thousands of local people and the country's senior officials, including the president Omar al-Bashir, also attend the ceremony.
The project, which started in May 2010, can store up to 3 billion cubic meters of water and provides water for 7 million people in Sudan. One third of the country's population will benefit from the project.
