Donald Trump has tweeted a new barb over the "drone China stole" hours after he was mocked for a spelling gaffe. The President-elect first hit out yesterday in a belligerent tweet saying China "steals United States Navy research drone in international waters"....
But he tripped up by saying the eastern power had taken the drone back to the mainland in an "unpresidented act." The gaffe - later corrected to "unprecedented" - was widely mocked on Twitter.
Now Mr Trump has followed up the complaint by saying China can keep the drone and he doesn't want it back.
"We should tell China that we don't want the drone they stole back - let them keep it!" Mr Trump tweeted.
It came despite the US military announcing it had reached an understanding with China for the return of the underwater glider.
According to the Pentagon, the drone was seized on Thursday while collecting unclassified scientific data in the South China Sea.
There is a long-standing debate over who has rights to the sea, which China claims virtually in its entirety.
