Suspected cultists who attempted to escape arrest by hiding in the ceiling of a brothel had their acts exposed when they fell as the ceiling gave in to the pressure of their weights....
The incident occurred at Warri, Delta State, when operatives from Warri Area Command swooped on suspected cultists and prostitutes at the popular Enerhen junction of the state, in an attempt to clear the community of crime and criminality ahead of the yuletide.
Crime Reports gathered that about 50 suspected cultists and 10 prostitutes were nabbed during the raid which was carried out with the engagement of 10 Hilux patrol vans.
An armed robbery suspect, who had been on the radar of the police, was among the suspects.
The cult suspects of various groups were said to be on the prowl and at daggers drawn when the police operations, drawn from all the divisions under Warri Area command, acting on a tip-off, swooped on them.
A senior police officer from one of the divisions told Crime Reports that on sighting the operatives, the suspects took to their heels and escaped into a nearby brothel.
He said when the policemen entered the brothel at Enerhen Junction, one of those there denied the presence of some of the suspects that escaped into the brothel.
“But while the person was still denying the presence of the suspects, the ceiling of one of the rooms came down with more than 30 of the suspects. Apparently, the ceiling could not hold them,” he disclosed.
The operatives, it was also gathered on Thursday, swooped on scores of suspected hard drugs users at Ogedegbe, by Cemetery road in Warri.
A lot of hard drugs such as Indian hemp and cocaine, among others, were recovered.
Although some of the suspects denied being members of cults groups, Crime Reports gathered that they were made to undergo screening.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Zanna Muhammed, who spoke with Crime Reports on phone, said about 90 suspects were actually arrested and undergoing screening, adding that there would be sustained raids on flashpoints across the state as the Yuletide gets nearer.
