EFCC; Senators Fight Over Ibrahim Magu’s Screening

The screening of the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu is one of the top items on the agenda of the Senate today. The screening of Magu, which has been pending since July, was scheduled for last Thursday but was postponed to this Thursday. Now reports have it that there are disagreements over the anti-graft agency's boss. ...

 Read according to Leadership;

After a clandestine leadership meeting, Senate President Bukola Saraki’s procession entered the chamber few minutes to 11am while the traditional opening prayer was said by Saraki around 11.01am.

But few minutes later, the Senate entered into a Executive Session to apparently sort out some contentious issues.

Earlier, the Senate couldn’t commence its plenary sitting at the appointed time of 10am this morning over what LEADERSHIP exclusively learnt to bother on disagreement among Senators on the modus operandi to be adopted in screening President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominee for the office of the chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.

The plenary was held up for one hour as some Senators and principal officers of the Senate were earlier locked in a meeting at the Senate President’s office where the Senate Leader Ali Ndume and Senator Dino Melaye were said to have sharply disagreed with one another.

Our reporter gathered that while some Senators are for the open screening of Magu at plenary session, some are opposed it, saying the EFCC nominees should referred to the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption for screening.

Ndume and Dino later exchanged words in public after the meeting at the entrance to the Senate chambers to the amazement of onlookers and security operatives.

While all this was going on, majority of Senators were already seated in the Red Chamber waiting as the confirmation hearing of Magu and four other nominee-members of the commission is listed on today’s Order Paper.

Details later….
