A mother who weighs 22 stone (309lbs) has successfully given birth in China. A team of 16 medical staff worked together to carry out a two-hour Caesarean section on December 13 at a hospital in Changsha, southern China....
The woman were reportedly 39 weeks pregnant and had been diagnosed with various heart diseases, pulmonary hypertension and gestational diabetes.
Staff from the different departments of the Hunan People's Hospital, including Obstetrics, Anesthesiology, Neonatology, were summoned to the operation, according to the report.
Due to the weight of the patient, anaesthesia had been a challenge, doctors said, because a normal needle was eight centimetres (three inches), not long enough to inject the anaesthetic into the body.
Multiple staff had to join forces to support the mother so that she could stay upright for the doctor to induce anaesthesia from the spine, instead of the neck.
The operation started in the morning and after around two hours, her baby was successfully delivered at 11:59am.
