Tank farm manager jailed 2 years for stealing

A Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere has sentenced the tank farm Manager of Dozzy Oil and Gas limited, Christopher Otu, and two others to two years imprisonments for stealing oil worth N210.8 million from the company. ...

Others convicted by the trial judge, Justice Olusola Williams, include the company’s Operations Manager, Walter Ezekwuo, and one Charles Ezeukwu.

The court found them guilty and convicted them on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing contrary to Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 17, Laws of Lagos State.
The convicts were said to have, between January 2000 and February 2006, being staff of Dozzy Oil and Gas Limited, Apapa Lagos State, stole two 2,667,531 litres of oil belonging to the company.

On the arraignment, the convicts had pleaded not guilty to the charge. Justice Williams held that the prosecution had proved its case and established the charge of conspiracy and stealing against the defendants beyond all reasonable doubt.

The court held that by the evidence of witnesses, it was the first defendant (Otu) who set the stage for stealing the products of the company by ensuring there was a false record of what was delivered.
