A medical doctor and three other persons have lost their lives in the latest outbreak of Lassa Fever in Anambra state....
This was made known by Dr. Emmanuel Okafor, the Director of Public Health, Anambra Ministry of Health, , who was a facilitator at a one-day workshop on Thursday, meant to sensitise health professionals in the state on the disease in Awka.
According to Okafor, “We don’t know the number of cases of Lassa fever diseaase yet, but we have four confirmed deaths.”
The doctor, who had died at the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi had been referred there from Asaba, Delta state.
To avoid the outbreak getting out of control, Okafor has urged all health workers to maintain high safety standards in handling cases of Lassa fever. Also, citizens have been warned to stop drinking raw garri, while also, protecting their foods and other edible items
