The public ceremony in the province of Banda Aceh in Indonesia saw four men led out on to a stage, one by one, in front of a mosque....


All of the men, with two appearing to be elderly, had been accused of violating Sharia law, the legal system of Islam which is derived from both the Koran and the rulings of the religion's scholars.

 They were flogged in front of the crowd with some guards seen laughing at them...
