Driver Arrested After Beating His Boss And Attempting To Flee With His Money. Photo

Police have foiled and arrested the driver of Dott Service Company in Uganda for attempting to rob the company’s money. Mr Zed Bola, allegedly tried to make off with Shs148m and $2000 (about Shs6m) the company had withdrawn from Standard Chartered Bank on Thursday evening....

Mr Michael Kasigire, DPC Kira Road Police Station, said Mr Bola had reportedly connived with other criminals to waylay the vehicle but his accomplices seemed to have feared the heavy security surveillance on the main and access roads in Kololo.

Mr Kasigire said Mr Bola started persuading his boss, Mr. Muthzne Hanzmz, who was with him in the vehicle with the cash, to allow him use an alternative free route, giving him excuses of traffic jam.

“Mr Hanzmz insisted that they should use the main road but driver locked the windows and started driving at break neck speed. This attracted the attention of boda boda riders and police men on Kololo roads and they trailed the vehicle,” Mr Kasigire said.

He said Mr Bola, on seeing people tailing him, started dropping bundles of money to divert them but in vain. He said the suspect later abandoned the car with his battered boss in it and scampered to City High Secondary School where he was arrested trying to hide the bag that contained the money.

“He requested our police officers to let him go and get rid of poverty. He promised to give them a share if they left him to go. The officers defied his inducement,” Mr Kasigire said.

While paraded before the media, Mr Bola denied having intentions to steal his boss’s money claiming he was saving it from robbers in the vehicle that was trailing them.

Mr Kasigire said this was the second incident in less than four months where the workers of the same company have connived with criminals to rob its money. He therefore warned the company to always seek police security whenever carrying huge sums of money.
