The Nigeria Customs Service has impounded 31 containers fully loaded with Thai parboiled rice imported from China that was falsely declared as yeast at the Tincan Island Container Terminal (TICP) in Apapa, Lagos State, South-West, Nigeria.....
This was made known by Mr. Dan Ugo the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in-charge of Enforcement and Alhaji Yal Umar the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in-charge of Tariff & Trade.
Ugo disclosed that the said crime was committed by Destiny Limited that the importer was bent on cheating the government going because of the quantity of rice involved. He pointed out that the seizure was made possible following the eagle of the Customs Area Controller and his men adding that the 31 containers contained over 14, 000 bags of Thai Parboiled rice and were brought in by Maersk vessel.
Remember the Controller General of the Nigeria Customs Service has warned that the era of impunity is gone and that the customs are ready to comply with zero tolerance on crime.
