Former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Femi Bamisile, has boasted that the party will recapture Ekiti from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2018....
Bamisile, who was the Speaker under Segun Oni-led government, pointed out that the loss suffered by ex-Governor Kayode Fayemi to Mr. Ayodele Fayose , was a mere temporary setback to the party, exuding confidence that the party would reconcile all interests and bounce back to reckoning.
Bamisile spoke in Ado Ekiti at the weekend during a meeting he convened and attended by stakeholders from all the 16 local government areas in the state.
The ex-speaker, who hails from Kota Ekiti in Ekiti South senatorial district, said he had declared his interest in the 2018 governorship election
Bamisile appealed to the party members to begin the process of reaching out to “commercial drivers and motorcyclists, teachers, civil servants, artisans, market men and women and other critical
stakeholders to make the dream of recapturing the State a reality.”
Bamisile also enjoined the party leaders to embrace whoever is appointed as minister by President Muhammadu Buhari so that the party can form a strong coalition that can dislodge Fayose‘s political machinery in the forthcoming governorship poll.
“I am very certain that APC will take over Ekiti in 2018. But we have to start the process of rebuilding the party and that is exactly what
we are doing. I have developed a team across the 16 council areas. We are working underground and we will ensure that everybody is brought
on board.
“Though, Fayemi’s loss brought a little setback, but if you go round you will realise that APC is still a party to beat in Ekiti. All we need to do is to reconcile all divided interests and sensitise our people,” he said.
He praised President Buhari for the N2.1 billion bailout he released in the payment of salaries in the state, urging him to monitor the governor for the money not to be misappropriated.
“President Buhari has given Ekiti a lifeline. He has rescued our people out of poverty and Fayose must pay our workers. He must not divert the money.
“The APC as an opposition party is monitoring the situation closely. Fayose will give account of how he spent the N2.1 billion. He will also explain to EFCC how he spent the N22 billion released by the federal government for the federal roads constructed by Fayemi, because his immunity will go very soon,” he said.
On the crisis rocking the National Assembly over emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki and Hon. Yakubu Dogara as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively, Bamisile promised that the bedlam would soon be over and that the PDP that is rejoicing would be
put to shame.
“We will always fight because such is normal in politics. But while fighting, we must always display extreme loyalty to our party. That is
what I believe in.
“The best way we can show this is by believing in any reconciliation efforts put in place in resolving crisis. I quite believe that we shall overcome and come out stronger,” Bamisile said.
