The Ogun State government has shut down 19 private health facilities in five local government areas of the state over alleged nonregistration and re-validation of their licences....
The Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Health, Dr Nafiu Aigoro, disclosed this yesterday during a visit by the monitoring team of the Department of Hospital Services.
Aigoro warned that the state government would not condone defiance to regulations by private health centres. According to him, the defaulting private hospitals cut across Ijebu North, Ijebu-Ode, Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North and Imeko-Afon Local Government Areas of the state.
The permanent secretary lamented the refusal of the owners of the affected health facilities to register or revalidate them, describing their action as “unacceptable.”
He said the closure was in the best interest of the people, stressing that the government would not hesitate to pursue any measure to enhance healthcare delivery.
Aigoro said records had shown that maternal mortality rate was rising in the state following the activities of quacks in the health sector.
He, however, noted that the enforcement was not targeted at a particular set of people or facility but to ascertain their level of compliance and ensure those culpable were decisively sanctioned.
