Kano State Governor Umar Ganduje Secures The Release Of 500 Inmates, Pays N20M Fine

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has facilitated the release of 500 inmates across the state incarcerated for minor offences.

The governor paid N20 million as fine to secure their release. Ganduje said the gesture was part of his administration’s efforts to decongest the prison and alleviate the sufferings of the common man, especially inmates who could not pay the fine.

Ganduje urged the released prisoners to be of good conduct after reunion with their respective families. He gave each of the 500 inmates N3,000 to enable them transport themselves to their respective towns and villages.

In his remark, the state Comptroller of Prisons, Mallam Abubakar Ahmed, commended the governor for facilitating the release of the inmates. Ahmed charged the beneficiaries to exhibit good character and shun unlawful activities that could lead to their return to prison. Ahmed commended the government for assisting prison authorities in the state.
