Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno state has on Tuesday received former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who is in state to condole the people of the state over the death of Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno and Alhaji Garba Abba Satomi....
"I happen to have a personal knowledge of these elders who passed away. Late Dr Shettima Ali Monguno was somebody who was very close to me. I have known him to be one of the finest, most honest, most upright public officers this country has ever produced" Atiku said.
"But how do you really determine a man's commitment to his community" Atiku asked.
"During the crisis in Borno state, thousands of elites in Borno have left but Dr. Monguno remained here in Borno state and make efforts to bring about peace and stability in his home and among his community until he was kidnapped, he still came back and never runaway from Borno State; he came back and stayed and continue with his peace efforts; these are memories we can never forget" Atiku explained.
"When I was serving here in Maiduguri from 1979 to 1982, late Garba Satomi was one of most outstanding elders and businessman in this community with whom I interacted rigorously, that I also know personally. He was also an elder who had the interest Borno at mind and never wavered to identify with his community" Atiku added.
The Vice President visited the families of both deceased elders in their family houses.
