Ooni, Alaafin, Akiolu task Yorubas on unity, culture

THE Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and the Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwanu Akiolu, yesterday, urged the Yorubas to unite in order to ensure growth and development of the race....

Meantime, renowned Yoruba scholar, playwright and actor, Prof. Akinwunmi Ishola, has tasked the South Western Governors on the promotion of Yoruba Language, arguing that people are better known by their language and culture.

They spoke at a Yoruba Summit organised by the Lagos State House of Assembly with the theme; “Making the Teaching of Yoruba Compulsory In Public and Private Schools In Lagos State.”

Ogunwusi while addressing the congregation at the summit, urged the Yorubas to see themselves as leaders, even as he stressed that God has blessed the Yoruba race in several ways.

He stated that Yorubas are not promoting their culture and language due to in-fighting and disunity, noting that this was causing a lot of setbacks to Yoruba Language.

Oba Adeyemi, who commended the organisers for the initiative, said that Obas in Yorubaland would support any move to promote the Yoruba Language, emphasising that our language is our culture.
