I didn’t run away, I resigned on health ground – Ekiti ex-commissioner

Ado-Ekiti—former Commissioner for Works in Ekiti State, Mr Kayode Oso, yesterday put to rest the controversy trailing his resignation from Governor Ayodele Fayose’s cabinet.


 Oso, who denied the allegation that he ran away to stave off arrest by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) , described the allegations as handiworks of the enemies of Fayose’s government.

 Oso said this in Ado Ekiti during the swearing-in of Mrs Theresa Funmilayo Ogun, former Special Assistant on Widows matters, as the new Commissioner for Works and Transport by Governor Fayose.

 Oso’s resignation a couple of months ago raised some dust, while some insinuated that he ran away to prevent his arrest by EFCC, others rumoured that he had a frosty relationship with Fayose over the awards of N57billion Flyover and N23 billion Erekesan Market projects.

 Dismissing the rumour, Oso said; “Two months ago , I resigned my appointment in the state on medical ground to enable me take care of myself. I am therefore happy that I am alive to witness today’s ceremony.

“Between my time of resignation and now , a lot of information went viral which suggested that I was acrimonious to Governor Fayose, that I am being trailed by security agents. Some even made accusations bothering on financial impropriety.

 “All these were misinformed and unfounded allegations that had nothing to do with my personal relationship with the Governor”, he said. Fayose, represented by his Deputy Dr. Kolapo Olusola, said Oso’s clarification has laid to rest the vituperations from the opposition All Progressives Congress, which he accused of consistently making the foregoing allegations .

Charging the new Commissioner to live up to expectations of her office, Fayose said: “Oso is a hard working, honest and rugged commissioner. In fact , he served the state meritoriously and I want to say that he has left a big shoe for you to wear.”
