As Lagos State joins the global public service to celebrate Public Service Day today, the state government has recognised and honoured no fewer than 59 outstanding public servants in the state, who have demonstrated uncommon zeal in the discharge of their duties.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who honoured the outstanding public servants today in Alausa noted that Lagos State public servants are second to none in terms of productivity and efficiency and have continued to work hard and distinguish themselves by delivering quality services to the public.
The governor attributed the significant progress that his administration has achieved so far to the perseverance, support and abiding faith in the policies and programmes of his government to the state public servants. “We thank you all for the significant progress that our administration has achieved so far.
It has been made possible by your commendable perseverance, support and abiding faith in our policies and programmes, as well as your dedication to duty and unflinching loyalty to the state,” he said. Ambode pointed out that the state government would continue to build incorruptible institutions and systems in the coming years that will respond to the needs of Lagosians, adding that it was the desire of the state gov-ernment to see all government ministries and agencies become veritable tools of growth and development.
He, however, stressed the need for a full-cycle of change in attitude of members of the civil service just as he hoped that the message of improved quality service delivery will permeate the ranks and file of the civil service hence he urged them to rededicate themselves to the goal of always delivering quality service in an honest, effective and transparent manner. He said: “It is no longer acceptable for the provision of public services to be marred by bureaucracy or red-tape.
At every point in the execution of a public servant’s duties, the paramount consideration must be the need of the general public to enjoy better services. I am hopeful that the message of improved quality service delivery will permeate the rank and file of the entire service.”
