Former Minister of Aviation, Prof. Babalola Borishade served in 3 ministries during ex-president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo's 1st and 2nd terms.
In 2004, Prof. Borishade was appointed Minister of State, Power and Steel; between July 2005 and November 2006, he was Minister of Aviation; then appointed, Minister of Culture and Tourism, a position he held till May 2007 at the expiration of Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar tenure...
Obasanjo's daughter Damilola married Borishade's son Tope in 2014: it was at this point the former president and ex-minister became in-laws.
This may not be the best of times for Prof. Borishade as Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar of the FCT High Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja, yesterday, refused to stop further hearing on a suit filed by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) against him(Borishade), and 4 others for allegedly mismanaging N5.2 billion Aviation Safe Tower contract.
The others are Borisade's former personal assistant, Tunde Dairo; former Managing Director of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, Rowland Iyayi; an Australian, George Eider and Avsatel Communications Ltd. The trial begain in November 2009, when they were arraigned by the EFCC on a 15-count charge of taking bribe and forging aviation contract documents.
The matter which was initially scheduled for Wednesday, February 3, 2016, could not go on as planned as the Attorney General of the Federation(AGF) requested for a brief on the case by the EFCC since the matter had been in court for about seven years.
Ruling on the application, yesterday, Justice Umar said the application by counsel to the defendants to foreclose or discharge the defendants was refused and ordered the prosecution to continue its case.
