Mr Governor !! Don’t Trigger Crisis in Ikere - Ekiti, NANS Cautions Fayose

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has warned Governor Ayo Fayose against triggering crisis in Ikere Ekiti community, a town populated by students over his alleged interference in the supremacy battle between the two monarchs that superintend over the town....

NANS posited that crisis that reared its ugly heads in the town in the past, led to the death of scores of students of the College of Education, located in the town, advising Fayose to rather mediate than to be taking side in the highly volatile issue.

The Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu and his rival and Olukere, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin, have been embroiled in crisis over who was the authentic monarch in the town, with the governor making categorical statement that Ogoga remained the only recognised king.

In a statement by the Chairman of NANS/ Joint Campus Committee, Ekiti Chapter, Com. Musa Suraj and his counterpart in the National Council of Yoruba Youths and Students, Com. Sunday Asefon, appealed to the government of Ekiti State to resolve the long drawn supremacy battle between the two monarchs.

The students’ leaders appealed to all interested parties to toe the path of civility by seeking redress in court, rather than making extra-judicial pronouncements.

NANS specifically condemned the State House of Assembly for allegedly issuing a threat to Olukere to stop parading himself as a king, being a resolution reached at its plenary on Tuesday, saying such virulent action could further exacerbate the already tensed situation in the town.
