Faparusi hails Tope Aluko for his bravery, demands prosecution of Fayose, Obanikoro, others

A member of the seventh House of Representatives, Bamidele Faparusi, has called on the Federal Government to prosecute those who allegedly conspired with Governor Ayodele Fayose to rig the Ekiti June 21, 2014 governorship election...

Faparusi, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, described the revelations by a former Ekiti Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr Tope Aluko, as mind-boggling, urging the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami(SAN) to act accordingly.

Speaking on Saturday, Faparusi, who represented Emure/Gbonyin/Ekiti East Federal constituency, said prosecuting those indicted would help to sanitise the electoral system.

He described the bench warrant issued against Aluko by a Magistrate’s court in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday as rather “preposterous and misdirected,” saying the perpetrators should face justice rather than calling for Aluko’s head.

“In an advanced clime, the conspirators, including Governor Fayose would present themselves for prosecution instead of instigating the arrest of the whistle blower (Aluko).

“The AGF can only use Aluko as a principal witness. In this case, the revelation of Capt. Sagir Koli coincided with what the PDP secretary had said and to me it must enjoy high level of believability among Nigerians.

“I charge the FG to prosecute those that had perpetrated electoral perfidy by using the military to usurp a democratically elected government and planted Governor Fayose here in Ekiti.

“This was a case of treasonable felony and they must not go unpunished if truly the country is serious about punishing electoral offenders and sanitise the system, so that we can have credible people winning elections rather than crooks.”

Faparusi hailed Aluko for his bravery, adding that his revelations indicated that he was a good and patriotic Nigerian, who should be celebrated rather than condemned.
