#Lassa fever: Ekiti records two more suspected cases

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has warned the people of the state not to expose their food items to rats and other rodents to have contact with, just as he directed health workers to embark on massive sensitization of the people.
..

This is just as the blood sample of a dead person has been sent to laboratories outside the state for testing to ascertain cause of the death, while another is seriously ill at an undisclosed hospital.

The dead person reportedly showed some signs that experts needed to ascertain whether they were Lassa Fever related.

Fayose, in a statewide broadcast to the people in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, said government was already trailing people who had contacts with the victims.

In a press release by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, Fayose also emphasized the need by residents to maintain clean environment and embrace healthy living.

He said: “The disease is in the state and samples have been taken from a dead person to see whether the signs had to do with the disease, another is on the sick bed.‎ We are trailing those who have been in contact with the victims and we are urging our people to care of their food items and they must not be exposed to rats.

“People must‎ report immediately to health authorities.‎ Our enlightenment programme will be taken to the palaces of our monarchs for our people to meet health workers.‎ Our food must be covered and we must maintain decent environment‎.”

Fayose said no fewer than 80 persons have been confirmed dead nationwide as a result of the outbreak of the disease.
He expressed optimism that as the nation was able to defeat the Ebola scourge few years ago, it would do same concerning the current challenge.‎
