#crime : Mathias Isah [ Motor park guard ] arrested for stealing N3million car

The police have arraigned a 28-year-old security guard at a motor park in Marina, Lagos Island, Mathias Isah, for allegedly stealing a Toyota Camry owned by one Olatunde Ibikunle....

Isah’s arraignment came up at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, just as three other suspects – Michael Umukoro, Blessing Ademoluyi and Wasiu Olayemi – were prosecuted for stealing valuables estimated at N2.6m.

It was learnt that Isah had stolen the 2007 model car with number plate, AAA 146 AP, valued at N3m on November 27.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident had been reported at the Lion Building Police Division, leading to Isah’s arrest some days after. The car was said to have been recovered by the police.

He was arraigned on one count of stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.

The charge read, “That you, Mathias Isah, on November 27, 2015, at about 12pm, at Marina Car Park on Marina Street, Lagos Island, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal one Toyota Camry, 2007 model, with number plate, AAA 146 AP, valued at N3m, property of Olatunde Ibikunle, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 285 (10) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”

The defence counsel pleaded that Isah be granted bail in liberal terms.

While adjourning the case till February 29, 2016, the presiding magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, admitted Isah to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Meanwhile, Umukoro, Ademoluyi and Olayemi were brought before Owolabi on two counts of stealing a laptop, phones, clothes, jewellery, among others, worth N2,675,000, owned by one Bamidele Ayodeji.

They and others at large allegedly committed the act on December 19 on Oyin Jolayemi Street, Victoria Island.

The offence, according to the police, contravenes sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

The counts read in part, “That you, Michael Umukoro, Blessing Ademoluyi and Wasiu Olayemi, and others now at large, on December 19, 2015, at about 3am did steal office bags, a laptop, an iPad mini, two bottles of perfume, a BlackBerry phone, gold jewellery and shirts; all valued at N2,675,000, property of Bamidele Ayodeji, and thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”

After they pleaded not guilty to the offence and elected summary trial, Owolabi granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

The case was adjourned till February 29, 2016.
