The men of Ogun State Police Command attached to Sagamu Division have arrested a man, Adesiyan Adeniji, who claims to be a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria for alleged armed robbery.,,,
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the suspect, who had been placed under surveillance by the policemen in the area for some time, was arrested on Wednesday at Ewusi, Sagamu, in the Sagamu Local Government area of the state.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspect was in possession of a stolen unregistered motorcycle, a locally-made double -barrelled gun with 20 live cartridges.
He said, “The policemen, who had placed the suspect under surveillance, monitored and arrested him. At the point of arrest, he was in possession of a stolen unregistered motorcycle and a locally- made double- barrelled gun with 20 live cartridges.
“Police preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect, who claims to be a vigilance group official, has been terrorising the people of Sagamu and robbing them of their belongings.”
He said the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, had directed a thorough investigation into the matter to ascertain the membership of the suspect with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
