Police arrest 2 over killing of Enugu lawyer [Ejimofor Ozongwo of Okwojo Ngwo in Udi LGA]



ENUGU—Operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, Enugu Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of Ejimofor Ozongwo of Okwojo Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

It will be recalled that the deceased, a former Secretary of the Enugu State Committee on Adada State Movement, was last Wednesday killed at Okwojo Ngwo, following a land dispute...


Ozongwu, a lawyer, in his late 50s, was reportedly killed over a disputed piece of land in his village, Ngwo, near Enugu at 2p.m. on the said date

A version of the story has it that the late lawyer had gone to inspect the disputed land and when he sighted land his opponents on the dispute, he fired some gun shots to scare them away.

Ozongwu was said to have in the course of scaring them, wounded the President- General of the town’s union, whose supporters then pursued him and killed him.

Another version is that a group of youths in the area sighted him while inspecting the land and pursued him and killed him and afterwards ran over his corpse with a vehicle to make sure that he would not be revived.

Some of the detectives who arrived the scene around 5p.m., were said to have taken the corpse to an unknown hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the arrest to Vanguard, adding that the names of the suspects would not be revealed for security reasons.
