#CRIME : Two bus conductors arraigned for drug trafficking

Two bus conductors have been arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for trafficking drugs.

Akeem Akinwande, 29, and 25-year-old Seun Abolade, were arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Alexander Komolafe, on four counts bordering on conspiracy, trafficking in hemp and breach of public peace.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, told the court that the offences were committed on December 16 at SMC Motor Park, Ogba, Lagos.

Ajebe said the accused were arrested by policemen from Area ‘G’ police station in Ogba, while on patrol.

He said, “The accused and others still at large attacked their victims and made away with their property. The accused unlawfully sold and smoked weeds suspected to be hemp in the public. Several wraps of weeds and dangerous weapons such as axes and cutlasses were recovered from them.”

According to him, the accused and his accomplices have been using the park as their hideout.

The offences contravened Sections 134, 166 (d), 327 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with one surety each and adjourned to January 22 for mention.
