Rashidi Ladoja files an appeal against the judgement of the Oyo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal

The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in the last governorship election in Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, has filed an appeal against the judgement of the Oyo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which dismissed the petition he filed to challenge the victory of the state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, in the April 11 election...

Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Aliu Mayaki, had on October 27, 2015 ruled that the petitioner failed to engage an expert to inspect election materials, stressing that Bimbo Adepoju, who inspected the materials was not qualified to do so and that his submissions could not be relied upon.

A statement issued on behalf of Ladoja in Ibadan on Saturday, which was signed by his media aide, Lanre Latinwo, observed that Justice Mayaki had earlier during the pre-hearing granted Adepoju the go-ahead to inspect the election materials used in the election. The statement said the appeal was filed on Friday.

“It will be recalled that Justice Mayaki had earlier ruled in favour of the petitioners (Ladoja and AP) during the pre-hearing stage, when the issue of Mr. Adepoju’s suitability to be a witness was raised by the respondents. His lordship ruled then that Mr Adepoju was suitable to be a witness as the relevant laws did not state who or what manner of qualification a witness should possess,” the statement said in part, adding that it was therefore necessary to approach the Court of Appeal.
