Hmm.. PDP’s court action, a waste of time – Kogi APC

The spokesman for the Kogi State All Progressives Congress Campaign Organisation, Mr. Abdumalik Sulaiman, on Friday, said the court action by the Peoples Democratic Party seeking that its candidate for the November 21 governorship poll, Capt. Idris Wada, be declared winner of the election will end in futility...

In a telephone interview with our correspondent, Sulaiman described the election, which saw the late Prince Abubakar Audu win the highest number of votes, as valid.

He said that it was wishful thinking for anyone to think that Audu’s votes were wasted and that Wada, the current governor of the state, should be declared the winner.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha, had on Sunday declared the poll inconclusive.

Audu had scored a total of 240,867 votes and won majority votes in 16 local government areas while Wada had 199,514 votes and majority votes in five local government areas.

Shortly after the declaration of the election as inconclusive, the death of Audu became public knowledge.

Sulaiman said there was no way Audu’s votes would be voided and Wada declared the winner.

He said, “The PDP’s action to challenge the victory of the APC in court, asking that Wada be declared the winner is an exercise in futility. The late candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, voted and voting was concluded before the tragedy.

“What is the PDP going to court for? The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has already spoken; I think going to court will be an exercise in futility for the PDP.”
