Back in May, popular political blogger and online activist, JJ Omojuwa was sued by Deji Adeyanju, an Abuja based socio-political activist over a story Omojuwa wrote that purportedly defamed him,.....

In the story, Omojuwa alleged that Deji was a criminal, an ex-convict, a cultist who had killed when he was in university, among many other things.

Consequently, Deji Adeyanju slammed a N50 million defamation suit against Omojuwa in May of this year.

Now, the High Court in Abuja on 5th of October granted an Order for Substituted Service on JJ Omojuwa. In layman's terms, what this means is this: when a person is sued, there is a document, called 'writ of summons' which is supposed to be presented to that person to inform them that they are being sued and they have to present themselves at court to defend themselves.

If that document cannot be served because of evasion or any other reason, then it means the complainant can go to court for permission to serve it to the defendant indirectly. So that means the complainant can publish the summons in the papers or even paste it at his door instead of giving it to the  directly. Lol

That is what substituted service means.

Reportafrique, com stated in their publication that Omojuwa has been evading the writ of summons. Could this be the reason why the Order of Substituted Service was granted?

Be that as it may, Omojuwa tweeted that he has been called by his lawyer concerning the case.

This promises to be a very interesting drama.
