Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Mosimi depot, has engaged officials of Department of State Services to arrest petroleum marketers hoarding fuel in Ogun State...
Chairman of the association , Adeleke Bada, disclosed this in Abeokuta, the state capital while speaking on the current fuel scarcity in the state.
Bada said some marketers have been arrested by the operatives and have been sanctioned for allegedly hoarding the products.
The Chairman of IPMAN, who did not disclose the identity of those that have been arrested so far and the number, said the association was compelled to take the step following the complaints of the people over the hoarding of the products.
Speaking on the cause of the sudden sharp fall in the supply of petroleum products in the state and in some South-west states, the IPMAN chairman disclosed that the pipeline at Arepo area in Ogun State, which had been tampered with by vandals is yet to be fixed.
He revealed that it would take Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, about two weeks to fix the damage by the vandals.
According to Bada, Mosimi depot is served by the pipeline, the depot serves Ogun State, Ijigbo, Ibadan and Ilorin.
Until the pipeline is fixed, the marketers’ leader noted that some of them would be patronising private depots at Apapa, Lagos.
He revealed that some filling stations currently selling Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, at N100 went to buy the product from private depot at Apapa which sells at N87 to marketers.
The transport and other costs of bringing the product to the station push the cost to N100.
