The Federal Road Safety Corps,FRSC, said it arrested 36 persons in Rivers State for violating different traffic laws.
FRSC disclosed this at Ahoada axis of the East-West road while observing its Zonal Intervention Special Patrol and the Official flag-off of its special ‘Ember Month’ patrol on the Federal highway in four states of Niger Delta region....
Briefing newsmen, the Zonal Commanding Officer in charge of Zone 6, comprising of Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, Mr. Bulus Darwang said the corps is out to check and arrest all road users who fail to comply with the stipulated traffic rules.
Darwang said the special operation would continue till the end of this year. He stressed that the operation would help reduce the level of road mishap experienced during the Ember months.
He said 36 people have been arrested on issues bothering on road worthiness and other rules.
The traffic boss also charged road users to ensure that all the traffic rules and regulations are adhered to strictly to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and property.
His words: “The major focus is speed violation, the issue of overload, rickety vehicles road, traffic violation and issues of tyre and wipers.’’
Since the rains are still here the tyres should be new, the wipers are meant to be working properly. We are also arresting trucks that carry too much load . The issue of drivers license is paramount.
“Most of them were arrested on the issue of plate number violation. Any driver caught with fake drivers license will be prosecuted. All of them were arrested for violating traffic laws. So far, we have made 36 arrests with 72 offences.”
