The Senate, today, October 12, 2015, threw out a petition against the ministerial nomination of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi...
Amaechi’s nomination had been contested by Senators from his state who based their petition on corruption charges levelled against the former governor.
The Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Ethics and Privileges however suspended consideration of the petition saying that the case against the former governor was still being considered in court and as such could not be grounds for stopping his confirmation.
The Chairman of the committee, Senator Samuel Anyanwu said further that the ruling was in accordance with the rules of the Senate.

Amaechi appeared before the committee today to defend himself on the charges.

The former governor was nominated along with 20 others to serve in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.
