While some politicians are still reluctant on channeling their energy towards the use of social media, others are actively using it to engage and reach out to their followers, admirers and indeed, Nigerians.
Nairanaijanews has been monitoring the activities of politicians on social media, and now bring to you five of them that are actively using the various mediums frequently and effectively.

1. Governor Nasir El Rufai:
Those who know the diminutive governor very well, knows that he has been very active on social media even before he became the governor of Kaduna state. As an opposition leader, he was a thorn in the flesh for the government of the day as his stinging criticisms were frequently countered from various government offices. Expectedly, his tone has now changed, as his focus is now to inform Kaduna citizens and indeed Nigerians on his activities and policies as the state’s chief executive.
2. Senator Bukola Saraki:
The senate president, just like El Rufai, was every active on social media before he became Nigeria’s number three citizen. As a senator and chairman of the senate committee on environment in the 7th senate, Saraki was always updating Nigerians on the activities of the committee, their legislative backing to government policies and his own contributions to the upper chamber during plenary. As the senate present, it is only natural that his social media pages will be more active and indeed they are.
3. Senator Dino Melaye:
He is one of the most popular senators in Nigeria. And his activities on social media helped him to attain popularity among Nigerians. Interestingly, one consistent feature of his social media pages, is the fact that he usually use the mediums to pray for his followers especially on Sundays, bringing him applause and admiration from many Nigerians. Melaye is also very engaging, as his stand on various national discourse are always from an interesting angle.
4. Senator Ben Murray-Bruce:
A very consistent contributor to Nigeria’s political discourse, Bruce has gotten to a point where many of his followers always look forward to his own stand when a major issue comes up in the polity, before they comment on the issue. His thought-provoking ideas and creative suggestions are monitored by many newsrooms in the country, because his views always start a debate among Nigerians. Class!
5. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode:
It will be a political suicide to preside over Nigeria’s mega city and not be active on social media. The governor’s media team is definitely aware of this fact and they have ensured that the governor’s activities are well documented via his social media pages. To show that he is being monitored closely, a recent issue that embarrased the governor’s media team came to light, when his Instagram page handler failed to acknowledge Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo. Trust Lagosians to point out the error, after which it was rectified.
