Police restrict operations of commercial motorcyclists

The police in Ogun on Tuesday directed commercial motorcyclists not to operate beyond 8:30pm.

The directive came on the heels of the recent clash between rival cult members in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The police also ordered beer parlours and night clubs not to operate beyond 10pm and 12 midnight respectively.

The state Police Commissioner, Abdulmajid Ali, gave the order in Abeokuta while parading no fewer than 126 suspects arrested for cult-related offences in different parts of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that no fewer than three persons were on Monday killed while two houses were razed in cult violence that occurred in some parts of Abeokuta.

Ali said the restrictions on the beer parlours and night clubs as well as the ban on commercial motorcyclists had become imperative in view of the security situation in the state.

“By 10pm beer parlours must close, okada riders must keep off the streets by 8:30pm. The okadas are being used to perpetrate crimes.

“The liquor Act is still in operation and so operating till the early hours will not be allowed,” he said.

The police boss also warned that the command would make the state uncomfortable for cultists and other criminals.

He vowed that his men would pursue and track down the cultists in all parts of the state.

We’ll continue to hunt them down. They are not cultists but armed robbers. We’ll make Ogun State hot for them,’’ he said.
