Mrs. Awolowo, who was 99 years old, achieved great fame and respect as a confidante of her late husband and custodian of his tremendous political and cultural legacy. NAIRANAIJANEWS learnt that the matriarch of the Awolowo family died in her sleep in her country home of Ikenne in Ogun state. Mrs. Awolowo's grand daughter is the wife of Nigeria's current Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo.

NAIRANAIJANEWS learnt that the matriarch of the Awolowo family died in her sleep in her country home of Ikenne in Ogun state. Mrs. Awolowo's grand daughter is the wife of Nigeria's current Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo.

One of her daughters, Dr. Tokumbo Awolowo, confirmed her death in a text message to Nairanaijanews
